Taking ECV to Florida...
Hi all
We're planning on taking my DH's scooter (or ECV) with us when we go in 3 weeks time. It's been booked onto the plane etc, but now I'm panicking about the batteries and charging them. DH seems to think they'll be ok, but I don't! On the charger it says the voltage is 115 - 230v. When we went to Lanzarote in 2005 we took it, and it charged okay, therefore will it be the same out there? If not, does anyone have any ideas as to what we can do please? Thanks in advance, Sarah |

115 seems an odd voltage, normally they state from 110v (which is what they use in the USA, unlike Europe which has 230v-240v). Best to double-check with the manufacturers.
Have you also checked it will be OK to fit in your hire car if you are having one? You should be OK on Disney buses though. Andre

Hi Andre,
Many thanks for the reply. We're going to look into what it says on the internet about the voltage, and if needs be, call Pride, who make the scooter. Yep, we've decided we're upgrading to a Mini-Van when we're out there, as it's a collapsible style scoooter, so used to taking it to bits and re-building it Will shout again if I need more help Sarah |

We like the Dodge Grand Caravans (7 seater, with lots of rear space if you fold down the back seats). Like a lot of US vehicles though, it's quite a big step up to get into it which may be an issue...

Hi again,
It quotes on the website of the manufacturer (Pride) the following : OFF-BOARD BATTERY CHARGER VOLTAGE SWITCH The off-board charger supplied with your scooter is equipped with a 115/230 voltage switch. The voltage switch is preset for your specific voltage and is intended to be used with a standard electrical outlet. Ensure this is the case before attempting to insert the charger plug into the electrical outlet. If the setting is incorrect, the charger will not function properly. Slide the switch to the prescribed position. See figure 7A. We have done the above (or will do when out there) - but we're still unsure if this means it's ok to charge in the US. It seems that the same charger is sold in the USA tho, which seems a bit confusing to say the least We had a Grand Caravan last time, and although we didn't take the scooter, we think it'll be ok for lifting in and out of. I'm strong Many thanks for your help |

We found it!
Answered our own question on the US site OFF-BOARD BATTERY CHARGER VOLTAGE SWITCH The offboard charger supplied with your scooter is equipped with a 115/230 voltage switch. The voltage switch is preset at “115V” and is intended to be used with a standard 110/115V electrical outlet. Ensure this is the case before attempting to insert the charger plug into the electrical outlet. If the setting is incorrect, the charger will not function properly. Slide the switch to the prescribed position. See figure 7A. Still, now if anyone else wants to know, the answers are there. Fyi, it's for the Pride Revo scooter. The charger is the HP8204B. Hth someone else! |
