Lens help

I currently use a Canon rebel xt which Ibought body only last september, I use it with my lenses that I have for my Canon EOS 600 these being a 35-105, 100-300, and a 400 telephoto.
I dont get the full benefit of these lenses on the digital camera and as I cannot stretch the funds to buy my ideal lens Canon 17-85 (£400), I was wondering if anybody could reccomend a similar lens or is the Sigma 18-125 a suitable alternative.

Any suggestions/comments would be appreciated

Steve

Thats a great price Allie has found, rushing off to see :-)

There is also the sigma 17-70mm lens, a great performer and has great macro function as well, it is f2.8 so pretty fast and does produce good sharp images.

The 18-125 ? well its ok but money can be better spent for sure.

Just bought the 17-85IS last week from Kerso. £319 if you email him direct (plus £10 P&P).

Thumbs up

I have now narrowed down my choice to the Canon 17-85 or the Sigma 17-70, has anybody used the sigma lens, or do I plum for the canon?. The Sigma lens is very tempting because it is an F2.8 and is closer to what I am used to working with on my EOS600 (35-105).
All comments appreciaited.

Again the sigma is the better choice from these 2.

I tested the sigma when it first came out for a photo web sitew and it scored very very highly in that bracket of lens. Only thing the canon has over it is IS but with the sigma having as fast as f2.8 this is a minor thing.

It is always the case with Sigma that they are seen as inferior and while they do a cheap range of glass this is certainly not one of them.

If you do not fall in love with the sigma I`ll eat my hat :-)))) nice straw one :-)
