wheelchair help

My wife can walk normal distances but i am worried due to health problems
she may need a wheelchair due to the vast size of the parks. can any kind dibber offer advise on the following.

Q1 i have read wheelchairs are available at the parks but with first come
first serve do the have plenty?

Q2 how much would a manual wheelchair cost to hire ?

Q3 what happens when you get to a ride do they have a safe area to
leave the wheelchair while on the ride.

Q4 or would we be better off taking a wheelchair out with us.

thanks in advance
colin

Hi...an ECV or 4 wheel buggy is avaliable on first come basis, they cost $40 to rent but when you take it back you get $5 refund, if you go to another park same day you just hand over your reciept and the $5 and get another buggy, They usualy have loads of normal wheel chairs..

You have 3 options

1. Hire on a daily basis at the parks (if she will only need one for the parks and maybe not every day)

2. Hire for the duration of your holiday from an offsite supplier (probably cheaper if you need one every day and for outside of the parks for shopping trips etc)

3. Take your own wheelchair with you (means you will have one all the time at the airport and wherever you go on your travels, at no cost)

You may also want to book wheelchair assistance at the airports, your airline or tour operator can arrange this for you.

There is a sticky at the top of this forum with more info about wheelchair and ECV hire.

We took mum to Florida last year and we hired a wheelchair for the duration of her three week holiday.

She went back this year (home yesterday) and my brother and I found it cheaper to buy a wheelchair of her own, even though its unlikely she will ever use it at home but its there for future holidays You can find them for under £100 on the net.

I take my own, there are never any in the car parks to get to the entrance when you need one. Also if you are staying on site using Disney transport you may find you need one at the end of the day to get from the bus to your hotel room, this was the worst time of the day for me to try to walk.

On a lot of rides you can stay in the chair,on those which need a transfer the CMs usually take them from th eentrance around to the exit for you

I would advise against buying on the net unless you have had a full assesment as they can get very uncomfortable and be hard to push.
