Our First Time in Florida Trip Report - Pre-Trip
Well hello again!
After a busy ten days and an even more exhausting three days since returning, I'm ready to start my trip report! First off, the introductions: Me (Helen) - 25; previously travelled around Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts with my parents. The Hubby (Andy) - 27; previously travelled up and down the East Coast with work - didn't see much apart from airports, aeroplanes, and fire engines! I had been itching to go back to America since my first visit, but the Hubby wasn't so sure. Eventually, after talking to his colleagues at work, he came home one day and said we were off to Kissimmee! That was the only encouragement I needed, and by the end of the week we had the flights and apartment booked. Since we were flying to Washington DC then onto Orlando, it was going to be a busy day, so we decided that the night before we would stay in a hotel near the airport. So we booked the Sheraton Skyline just minutes from Heathrow, and with our bags packed and the house looking cleaner than it ever had done, we travelled down to London just after lunch on Saturday 18th. The Skyline was absolutely amazing, and we would recommend it to anyone wanting somewhere to stay and park their car whilst away. We got a great deal - room and 12 days parking for £90. When we arrived, we entered the huge lobby in awe - we just weren't expecting marble floors, high ceilings, plush lounge areas and a pool area to rival those on the Med. We were checked in in minutes, and soon found ourselves in the most spacious hotel room we have seen in this country. Being the Sheraton, the bed was super king-sized, with their famous Sweet Sleeper mattress that you just melt into! After quickly unpacking our travelling clothes and washbags, we went for a walk and stood 'plane-spotting' for a while before returning to the hotel and having a quick meal in the American-themed sports bar. We had stopped on the way down to Heathrow for something to eat, so we shared a plate stacked with spicy chicken wings, and a gorgeous chocolate fudge cake for dessert. Admittedly, it was expensive - I had a lime and soda water that cost over £1.50! But we returned to our room feeling full and excited to start our American Holiday! I've included a couple of pictures to give you an idea of what our room was like: Next update: upgrades at the airport, calamity with the car hire Helen x x |
