Christmas cake, Wenslydale cheese and an apple

Did anyone else buy the Marks and Sparks christmas hampers that were half price? (advertised on a savings site). They are very good for the price. Couldn't resist the christmas cake and am eating it now with cheese and apple. Is this just a northern quirk or does anybody else eat fruit cake with cheese etc?

I was brought up eating Christmas cake with cheese, but mostly I will eat it without if it has icing and yummy marzipan on, but with if it is a lonely cake!

I love fruit cake and cheese, especially tangy Cheshire cheese. I had never heard of this combination until we went to visit friends in Yorkshire.

Well we dont do it in London, I have never heard of it before but do like apple and cheese in a salad. I might have a try when we cut our cake!

I'm a Yorkshire lass but my husband is a southerner(he has mixed in well up here now) and he can't bear the thought of cheese with fruit cake. We also ate apple pie or mince pies with cheese. He thinks we are nuts!

My husband is from Middlesbrough and he and his family eat Christmas cake with cheese.

Just another strange northern eating tradition I have discovered being a soft southerner who just eats the cake!

Don't tell me you havn't been introduced to the splendours of tripe and brawn. We're not strange, we just know how to eat well!

That's exactly what my husband and his family tell me - over the years I have been introduced to lots of things and they think I am strange for not having had them before!

I now know to get in extra cheese at Christmas though!
