Shopping Christmas Eve in Chester

We are planning to spend Christmas Eve shopping in Chester.

We have never been before so please can any locals give us the heads up on where the "quaintest" black and white Tudor looking buildings are and the best way to get there.

We are heading in from the warrington direction.

We will be happy to do park and ride if someone could kindly give is the adress (postcode) for the parking area.

Also, does anyone know what the opening times of the majority of shops is for the day?

Thanks

park and ride is on the other side of town, you would be better off parking at chester racecourse, it cost £4.50 all day, also opposite is a normal car park. the town is a couple of minutes walk away, i'm going tomorrow!

There is a park and ride beside Chester Zoo (which is very well sign-posted), another in Boughton Heath just off the A55 (take M56, M53 southbound), and another on the Wrexham Road. I would think that either the one at the zoo or the one at Boughton would be fine for you. All the buses will drop you right in the centre.

We prefer the train, much less fuss than driving around the busy city. Depends if a train station is accessible to you, the North Wales train that stops at Chester can be caught from Warrington Bank Quay and also stops at Newton le Willows (where we live) and Earlestown. I just wouldn't want to be stuck in that motorway traffic at this time of year! We can also wait for the train home in the pub across from the station!

We like to walk all around the wall but could be slippy right now, I find it slippy when it's wet let alone icy. There are lots of quaint Tudor buildings in the centre, you can't miss them. The Christmas Market should be open, make sure you have a gluvine to warm you, I find a shot of brandy helps!

Chester really isn't that busy a city to drive in, if you park at the racecourse as someone else suggested it's a lovely walk up a slight hill into the main shopping area. Have a look up onthe rows and walk the walls, go down by the river for a hot chocolate! Chester is a lovely city and a fantastic place to spend Xmas eve.

At the moment there is the Chester Wheel and Outdoor Ice Rink too - these are on the Crown court car park and are open on Xmas Eve. Have a fantastic time.
