Laptop or kindle? Does anybody have a kindle?

Hi guys!

Sorry I know theres a lot going on with everyone, was just hoping on some opinions on the kindle before I buy one, hope thats okay

Basically I was going to get a laptop from DBF for xmas..but then I heard about the kindle and now Im thinking. I read you can get one with the internet on (which is mostly what I would use the laptop for!) and its cheaper than a laptop.

However, Im not a huge fan of reading off of a pc...is it the same kind of thing? Im on the pc all day at work and just want to get off when I get in, so if a kindles like reading off a pc then its no good to me

What do you kindlers think?

I highly recommend the Kindle for reading, the screen is not at all like a PC to look at as there is no backlight and its a different type of technology. It is also brillant in direct sunlight so is great for reading on a sunbed on holiday.
It does have internet access but you cannot really surf on it or send e-mails. You can receive e-mails but you will pay for each one you receive.
So if you want to look at the internet and send e-mails and read Kindle books from the Kindle store then I recommend an iPad with the Kindle app on it.
If you do get a laptop you can also read Kindle books on that using the free Kindle software from Amazon.

E-readers are very different to computer screens, it's difficult to explain what they're like without actually seeing one though. I have a Kindle and wouldn't use it as an alternative to a laptop/pc for internet browsing. It's fairly slow and can't load anything that moves (gifs, movies etc) and the screen is black and white.

Have you considered a netbook? They are fairly cheap and great if you just want something to access the internet.

I also wouldn't recommend replacing a laptop/netbook with a Kindle. The primary function of a Kindle is reading. The main reason for the internet access is so you can download more books. If internet browsing is what you're after, I'd definitely go with laptop or netbook
Alternatively, ipad may be more what you're after?
