PRE TRIP: The Fa-mouse Foster 5 Do DLP - 2012
This is my first ever trip report, so be gentle with me. The trip marks the Foster's first ever trip to DLP as the famous (or should I say fay-mouse...see what I did there?) five.
We have been to DLP many, many, many times - first time was 92 or 93 if I remember correctly. The last time as a family was in 2009 and was less than spectacular as we shared a room with two babies. Not much fun. We have also done 'the other place' (ssssshhhh, in case James - JamelUK- is reading this), you know the BIGGER place, many times too. We also know better than to compare the two. For the unitiated, we comprise of: Me, Rob, 40 - father of the clan, general head factotum, Disney Parks geek and co-presenter of a little podcast. Visionary. Balding. Prat. DW, Paula, 36 - always understanding of my foibles, uber planner and pretends not to be impressed with my tips and tricks. Chief worrier and Company Treasurer. Now onto the kids - aka "The Management" DS, Harry, 7 aka "H" - football loving, light sabre wielding, Disney geekoid...the force is strong in this padawan. DD1, Charlotte, 5 aka "Charlie" aka "The Bear"...we can't remember why. Princess loving, very girly, very protective of her little sister. Attention span of a gnat. Gullible in the extreme (and do I exploit it? Of course, I'm her Dad!) DD2, Isobel, 2, aka "Issie" aka "Fred"...again, lost in the mists of time. She believes she is Rapunzel, and that Maxmimus is not a horse, but a dog. (Please watch Tangled, otherwise this is all lost on you). She has a 'strong personality' according to her nursery. I say she takes after her mother's side of the family. So...DLP then. Wassit all about? Well we came home from WD...shhhhh, the other place...in May and decided roundly that we wanted some time away from there. Crazy talk you say! But true, we both thought the kids could end up getting very very spoilt by doing Flor...you know where...every year. That's it then. We skip Disney in 2012. Job done, and two weeks in Menorca have were booked for August next year quicker than you can say "How much surcharge to pay on credit card?!" But. We love Disney. We love it lots. And Paula and I had spent a great weekend in DLP for my 40th in March just gone. We asked the kids - what would you like to do next year at half term, Center Parcs or Dis... "DISNEY! " they all shouted. We nodded slowly and sagely and said, "Well, we'll have to wait and see..." But then Paula and I did an awful thing. (Stop it, no.) We looked up prices on the DLP website. It was like a rush of adrenaline hit us when we looked at the site...Space Mountain! Big Thunder Mountain! Tower of Terr...maybe not. But their siren call was too much for either of us to bear. But what about spoiling the kids? Well it'll be a short break - not a three week stint - and essentially the first memorable visit for all of them. Plus I want to scare the living bejeezus out of Harry on Space Mountain So TWO rooms (yes, count them ladies and gen'lmen...1, and a 2) Sequoia Lodge booked for 5-8 June 2012 (half term) travelling by Eurostar from Ashford. And the best thing? The very best thing? The most wonderfully bestest thing since Fiona Philips left GMTV, is that...THE KIDS DON'T KNOW! This is even more delicious for us, because for Orlando (there, I said it) this year we did include Harry in the know, but kept it from the other two. This was kind of fun, but he wasn't always the most discreet. So this time, we are telling them all nil, nada and nothing. We are going to wait until we get on that iron horse to Marne la Vallee, and then tell them. Woop! So there it is at the minute. We've just received the email confirmation for Mickey, so we're locked and loaded. Thanks for reading this drivel, and I'll be sure to keep you posted and things develop. This trippie is going to be one slow burner...

Does this mean you'll actually be paying attention to what I'm saying on the XTRA now?

Good on you Rob. I know there are knockers out there but i love DLRP. Things have improved a lot over the last ten years. As you know I went in the summer and as you also know, I had a darn good time. You're going to have to keep the kids away from your laptop and no mention of it on the Dibbcasts !

Hi,
Sounds very exciting! We've just got back from our first visit to Flor... can I say that word on here? And loved it! Can't go back next year as don't want to spoil the kids with florida every year - oh and the bank balance can't sustain the hit! So Egypt it will be but thinking of going to Disneyland Paris next June for the half term. Can I ask who you booked with as I can't seem to get quotes fir June. Thanks. |
