Talking Going to the States via EU

Getting a little bit excited now about our trip to California
Flying out from Manchester, going via Brussels !
Then hopping (LOL) to Chicago then onto LA.
Same route on the way back but via New York rather than Chicago. We got a really great price for our flights ... 4 adults for £2000, (kids 13 and 17, classed as adults).
Anyway the question is do we clear customs in Brussels both ways on route. We know we'll have to clear customs/immigration in Chicago.
Thanks in advance.

I think it will depend on if you see your baggage in Brussels.
If you do collect it and then have to recheck in you will clear customs in Brussels and then in Manchester you can go through the Blue channel.(you can still be stopped)
If your bags are transfered straight to the next aircraft then you will have to go through the Green channel at Manchester.

We use KLM to get from manchester to california, the flight from schipol is direct to lax and you dont see your suitcase till u get to lax (hopefully)...Never had any probs though yet...

Its strange but from manchester to lax this year its actually quicker via schipol than any other route taking into account the transfer times...

We booked the flights via the Manchester airport site online, and the booking is for the SN Brussels airline, but they are partners with American Airlines and BA so our flights to and from Brussels are with BA, and to the US and Internal in the US with AA. We booked back in November online and had to pay the full fee upfront, (non refundable), but we were well pleased because of it being peak season.
When we were looking for flights I trawled the internet/ and travel agents for two full days, the lowest price I could find was £2500, DH still said I'm not paying that much (he is a yorkshire man after all LOL) went to the manchester airport site and in a few minutes had managed to shave £500 off the price (men )
Can't wait we have even booked to see a baseball game... the LA dodgers.
