I spent several days in Istanbul while stationed in Turkey. Not exactly sure what you are asking? Ask away and I will answer if I can...

I have been to Istambul a few times on business. Are you enquiring where to stay? What to do etc? I think our normal hotel was The Princess in Maslak, but this is a commercial suburb a 20 or 30-min taxi drive from the tourist centre.

Hi Debbie,

Maslak is a commercial suburb or Istambul. It is home to some new bank head offices but there is nothing else there per se. It is roughly comparable to Canary Wharf in London. You would need to taxi to the tourist areas - approx 30 mins away. I find Istambul fascinating and a great place to visit but for a long weekend rather than a 2-week holiday - it is akin to Rome, full of ambience and history. I am not aware of any nearby beaches but in all probability there are some along the Bosphorous.

As for safety, in general yes it is safe HOWEVER as you are aware from the news there have been Islamic fundamentalist attacks there. So, I would say that you would be safe from criminal attack. The chances of being hurt in a terrorist attack are extremely remote but they are higher than holidaying in say France or Spain - but as the Madrid attacks showed you are not safe anywhere. Would I take my DW and DDs there? Yes - but for a long weekend, not for 2 weeks. How old is DS?

Thanks Hal, is the hotel close to the new bank, as my hubby now works for kodak and is fitting a new printer at the bank. Holiday would be free.

The hotel is in walking distance of some bank offices. If it was me taking my family I would opt to stay at a hotel in the town centre and take a taxi (on expenses naturally ) to work - rather than stay near the office and take taxis for pleasure.

The Four Seasons is a particularly fine hotel if his expenses will run to it
