We where in Prague in January this year, and it was so cold, but we just walked everywhere. We where based in the old town, so it was close to most historic sights. I would not say it's a place to keep kids amused. We did not take our two on both our visits. In the summer Prague can be very, very busy.

Went to Prague last dec. Lovely place.
You should definitely get a tram up to the castle then walk down and stop in all the lovely coffee and gift shops. we stayed in the IBIS Praha city, just outside the centre so good rates and also a minutes walk to the metro and trams. Would def. recommend, as got metro and bus from airport to here no probs. |

Went to Prague last year (March) and thought it was a beautiful city and well worth the visit...so long as you stay off the main square then the food/drink is very reasonable... we were just under £1 for cocktails and DH and friend about 40p for a pint
We stayed in Cerna Liska on the old town square just round from the Astronomical Clock... had a fantastic view watching the market stalls open up each morning. Here's a brief "trippy" I done for another forum whenI came back Stayed in Hotel Cerna Liska which is situated right on the Old Town Square, could not have asked for any better location, I opened my windows, sat on my ledge and watched Prague waking up every morning! The hotel was fine, it dates back to the 15th Century and was recently given major refurbishment between 95-2000, so everything is very clean. We stayed on B&B basis, breakfast was fine, the usual continental, help yourself buffet. Staff were helpful and security was good(controlled entry once you went through the main door). We were delighted by the food and drink, both quality and prices. We ate & drank mainly just off the square and were not ripped off once. I was worried about the food before I went because I only eat vegetarian dishes (and very occaisionally chicken) and I was well catered for everywhere I went. Please, if you go, avoid the British/Irish pubs...why go to such a beautiful city and sit in a pub that could be in any major city in UK (and beleive me these places were packed! ) Go to the Alcohol Bar (just off the old town square) cocktail bar, very reasonable priced and very friendly staff; go to Havana Bar, another cocktail bar, I think a lot of famous people go here, judging by the walls! Ebel Coffee house is the best for Jumbo Latte(and I mean jumbo) and cookies! Before I went to Prague, I thought "oh yes lovely buildings" in a very disinterested sort of way But I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the architecture (OMG I never thought I'd hear myself enthusing about buildings! ) Each one is unique...I came back with a crick in my neck from looking up all the time! St Vitus Cathedral is awsome, St Charles Bridge, Astronomical Clock etc etc. Get a book out the library, look it up online, before you go and read up on the history of these places..I did and it makes a huge difference to your appreciation of the places..honestly Jewish Quarter, left me feeling quite emotional, especially the Cemetry and the Pinkas Synagogue. The Pinkas Syn, takes your breath away...the walls are covered in the names of 600,000 Czech Jews who went missing during WW2, and upstairs is an exhibition of childrens drawings (I found that quite upsetting so beware if you get upset at things like this). Lots of walking tours, we only went on the Ghost Walk..was disappointed Wanted to be scared butI wasn't! We didn't take part in any of the other walking tours, I prefer to see things at my own pace and because I had read up and taken a book with me, I was able to fill myself in on the background to things! Can't comment on the trams, we WALKED everywhere..I think I shrunk about 4inches over the weekend! But I saw loads! Have aball! mnis |
