Lightbulb Hire of Wheelchairs, WAVs, Medical Equipment & Services

Wheelchair/ECV Rentals in the Disney theme parks

Wheelchairs and electronic convenience vehicles are available for rent at the theme parks, and each ride and show has accessible ramps and entrances. The ECV's and wheelchairs are rented on a first-come, first-serve basis, so try to arrive at the park at opening time to make sure you get one! If you intend to park hop your receipt from the rental at the first park is also good at any other park you visit on that day subject to availability. (ECVs are currently renting for $50 per day, plus a $20 refundable deposit and photo ID as security, manual wheelchairs are $12 per day with an option to prepay for multiple days at $10 per day.) Info on the Disney site here.

Similar hire facilities are available at other theme parks and attractions. If you need to use a wheelchair or ECV every day then it is much cheaper to hire for your length of stay. Hire companies will deliver and collect from your accommodation and you will have the equipment at your disposal whenever you need it, not just in the theme parks but for using around your resort or on shopping trips etc as well.

Offsite Rentals:

New Disney resort ECV rental policy effective November 1, 2012 Walt Disney World will implement a new ECV rental policy. Disney has selected five scooter/wheelchair/ECV rental companies as approved vendors. This means these companies are the only companies allowed to drop off mobility equipment rentals at the front desk/bell stand of a Disney resort to be held for guests. Guests using these approved companies will be allowed to return their rental equipment to their resort's front desk when they check out.

Disney's approved vendors are:-
Apple Scooter 321-SCOOTER 726 6837 local to WDW at Crossroads shopping centre
Best Price Mobility 866-866-3434
Buena Vista Scooters 866-484-4797 or 407 938-0349
Care Medical 407-856-2273 or 800-741-2282
Scooterbug 407-532-7400 or 1-800-SCOTBUG (726-8284)

Companies that are not on the approved list will now have to arrange specific meeting times with their customers and deliver in person. Likewise, when the rental is completed, the guest must make arrangements to deliver the scooter direct to the company. Disney will no longer provide a courtesy hold/storage for vendors not on the approved list.

* if you intend to use Disney transport to get around please be aware that Disney buses have a size limit for scooters and wheelchairs. For a scooter to be safely tied down on the bus, it must be able to fit into the designated space. The largest size that the bus must accommodate is 30" wide by 48" long. This is marked out on the sidewalk at many bus stops. Please double check with the renter that the scooter you intend to hire is within these guidelines as some companies hire scooters which are 'heavy duty' and these may be larger than allowed*

I've used care medical to hire a manual wheelchair, service was good. The only problem we had was that the hand-grips kept coming off. It got quiet exciting at one point when DH's hand were sweaty with the heat and the grips slipped off the chair when he was pushing DD downhill...now that was a thrill ride

We used Randys last time and plan to use them again this year. They leave it off wherever you wish and collect and give a short lesson on how to use and dimantle into car.

This happens to DD alot in the summer due to the heat. Very annoying though.

That's a terrible charge!

We order our chair from Randy's this year and the handles started to come loose on that one too. On our final day they had to collect the chair early so we hired one from the park, DD said it was much more comfortable and DH said it was easier to push, he only problem was that there were no chairs in the car park to get you to the park, DD can walk short distances so it was ok for us but I imagine it would be difficult for some people.
