UK Passport office won’t accept marriage certificate
 

Anyone had any issues? Had a letter today from HM Passport Office to say is sent them a photocopy of my marriage certificate but I hadn’t. I thought myself when I received it that it looked like a photocopy but it is embossed and I am assured that is what originals look like. I have called the passport office but can only speak to someone who is reading notes and he said it says I have to apply for an original from Florida dept of vital statistics. Has anyone else has any issues with passports?

I sent off mine from Florida and never had any issues. Yes they do look like photocopies but if it had the embossed stamp like you say then it should be fine. Not really sure what you can do. Is there any kind of complaints or appeals number you can call?

I got married in Florida and had no issues using my marriage certificate for my new passport.

I also sent off my Florida marriage certs (which looked like copies) to the passport office, HMRC, banks, pension companies, utility companies, credit cards, Land Registry etc and all accepted without question.

We had no problems when we did ours in 2004. Have you managed to sort it?

Not yet, I’m waiting for the case handler to call me. I’ve explained the stamp indentation, red signature from the clerk and the typewritten at the top being the evidence it was registered with the bureau of statistics and it has been logged on the file.

That's strange, mine was accepted. Hopefully you'll get this resolved.

We had a problem with VH - as they rejected our US letter on US paper. It transpires they scanned the document - so did not look real.

Maybe ask the person if they have the original document or just a scan of the PC system - I hope they sort it out soon.

It has now been approved, didn’t get a phone call, just a text to say it is on its way. I assume they read the notes or got a 2nd opinion. Panic over!
