BA fly drive with Avis but have incurred extra charges

We have just returned from our hols and have noted additional charges on three Avis rentals we had. I asked specifically on two occasions and was told there were no charges to be paid. I don’t know what the charges relate to as I stupidly believed the attendant who said ‘no charges’ and didn’t exactly keep the receipt safe.

Has anyone had similar experiences and how has it been resolved ?

Log into your avis preferred account and you can view your past rentals and details receipts. - it will show any charges on it.

Are you sure they are not deposits, each rental would get a deposit charge but these would only show as pending and they drop off, usually $100 each rental.

But as already pointed out you can login and check.

How much are they on each rental ?

I managed to get my receipts from the preferred account. For the one day rental I was charged £17, two weeks rental £24 and £80 for the three day rental. It seems the prepayment voucher didn’t cover the cost of the rental so we have been charged extra. What’s wrong is I was told there were no additional charges. I do recall being told on two occasions we’ve been given a free upgrade. I’ll be calling Avis and Ba now.

Call BA and they will sort this out with AVIS. The issue seems to be that BA are paying a set rate and the avis system is putting their charges for the booking and there's a discrepancy between them. BA and Avis will sort it between them and you should have no costs.

I have had this issue twice with Avis and notified BA who refunded the money to me. I had tried dealing with Avis about the overcharge but they just ignored my emails.

When you had the one day hire did you do under 75 miles? if so they have a standard charge of $17.99 plus tax (it may be more now) for doing under 75 miles so you need to show them your fuel receipt when you drop the car back and they take the charge off. I had this happen last year at Sapphire Falls when I dropped the car back and only noticed the charge a couple of days later, as we were still there I went to the desk with the receipt and they removed the charge straight away. If it is this and you still have your receipt a scan sent to Avis showing the receipt showed get this charge taken off.

I didn’t track the miles which is a lesson learnt for me. I refuelled the car just before I dropped it off. I will try and sort this out today. Not that it’s a lot of money it is just the principle of being told there are no charges and then finding them when you get home.

I’ll get onto BA now. Thanks for this information.

I was going to call Avis first but won’t bother after hearing your experience.
