Sights, Bites, Maltese Delights. Malta Oct 21. Day 7. Busy Doing Nothing

Tuesday 5 October

A week in already ... where has it gone!

We planned a quiet day today after all the walking yesterday and the weather was looking more unsettled. In fact this week was looking a bit rubbish. Not the constant sunshine we had expected. apparently a storm hanging around off the cost of Sicily was to blame and in the end this week was windy, a bit squally and generally cooler :(

Still , it looked like the first half of the day would be nice so we could still sit out by the pool. :thumbs-up

A week of the breakfast buffet and it was feeling a bit samey so I decided to go continental today.

I’m not sure cheese and salami rolls are really my thing for breakfast but it made a change.

It was sunny out and noticeably quieter - even the very popular seafront area had empty loungers

It must be a changeover day at the hotel with some companies as it was also quiet on the Tuesday we left.

There were empty loungers everywhere

Very peaceful :d:

The downside was the Reef Bar at the seafront was closed because it was low season so we opted to stick with our cabin ;)

Andy was really suffering with the mossie bites. I had a few that were painful but he was being feasted on. Here’s just a couple

It was a bit windy but still warm and when the sun did come out, it was lovely. We spent a relaxing few hours and I ordered a strawberry mojito - very nice :thumbs-up

On the way back up to the room, the snug bar next to the terrace dining room was open. It had been closed up to now and seemed to only be open for private functions. We wondered if it was opened as bar in peak season.. looked a nice space.

We opted not to have lunch today and thought we would go for an early dinner instead and try and beat the forecast rain

It was definitely clouding over

Early evening we set off for One Portomaso - a short walk from the hotel.

Despite the website saying all day dining, we were told they wouldn’t be serving until 7. :( Which left us in a bit of a dilemma . It was looking very likely the heavens would open any minute and dinner plans were now a bit of a shambles. Chances of making some bad last minute choices very high!

We headed into Paceville and stopped at the Long Hall bar - an Irish Pub and decided that we might as well wait out the rain and head back to our original destination rather than end up somewhere random.

So we played cards and had some drinks while it rained

It didn’t last long though and we walked back

It was all very new and looked very trendy

I had a pornstar martini

We had thought it was a bit indifferent to start with but the service warmed up as the evening went on and the food was excellent

I had a pasta dish and Andy went for fish and chips

Really very good - what a fab place this had turned out to be

And another very well priced meal

It had certainly made up for last nights disappointments!

Ouch those bites do look nasty. The weather taking a turn for the worse had a positive result in the end hanging out in the Irish bar and then a tasty dinner.

Shame the weather was taking a turn and ouch to those mozzie bites. You both have my sympathy as it's always me that they love!
I can't believe the price of your dinner, less than half the price of last night's and looks loads nicer! Also, perfect choice on the Pornstar martini, ooh they're lovely

It did all work out in the end. This was the start of the weather misbehaving :(

Poor Andy was covered in them. We’d got loads of spray repellent, after sun with repellent etc. We said if there is a next time we would bring one of those in room plug ins as well ;)

Dinner was such a surprise hit:tongue:

Glad your dinner was so much better today.

Ouch to the mosquito bites - they look so sore. 😫
