Avis - fee charged when home?

Hi Guys

We returned home 3 days ago :(
We booked a fly drive through BA, car was with Avis.
I checked with BA before we went, they said everything was covered and there would be no fees when picking the car up.
Picked the car up fine, didn't pre-pay for fuel. Took the car back full, not a mark on it etc. I've now just had a charge of £119.79 to my credit card which I don't understand. When I dropped the car off I checked with the Avis worker who said there was no fee outstanding and I received a receipt stating $0 due.

Can anyone please help? Would I contact Avis or BA?
Thanks x

Did you decline, or does your receipt show as declined the extras they try to get you to take out, personal accident insurance or enhanced breakdown assistance. Could it be tolls?

If you head to https://www.avis.com/en/reservation/get-e-receipt you'll be able to download your receipt. Does it have PAE or ES with an amount next to it which says Accepted? Unfortunately theres a lot of this going on at the moment with Avis.

Thanks for that link Andy, although I had the printout from the car return showing a zero charge, it was nice to see the receipt on the Avis site. Thanks again.

Converting that to dollars using interbank rates it comes out around $158 which happens to be the cost of a Moving Violation fine. That is something like not coming to a full stop at stop signs, running a red light etc. Ask what the charge is for, and if above, they should be able to give you a link to photo evidence. No photo don’t pay.
It may of course just be coincidence that the charges match.

If the receipt is showing $0 as well then I think PPM has hit the nail on the head.

Thank you all, only just managed to get back on here :(

I phoned the American Avis number today, they said I have been charged $153 as I took the car back with less fuel that when I picked it up! I took it back full!
Luckily I kept the receipt from the gas station on the way to the airport, so I have to email them across to try and get a refund!
So please people, query everything! Even though I double checked there was no fee outstanding, they just took all that money without raising it with me first.

Thanks for your help :)

It appears Avis haven't exactly covered themselves in glory these last few months.
Not accepting BA vouchers, overcharging for stuff, false toll charges, adding on unwanted extras and charging $9 per gallon for a full tank when it has been returned full.

One wonders if they have taken on some staff from Dollar.:nonono::nonono:

Thing is you did check everything. There are times with car hire companies whatever you do the wrong rep is going to rip you off.
