The Decadent Dibber does Dubai...

Or otherwise called ... that turned out to be an expensive Sunday Lunch ...

Well this is a trippie I never expected to write. ;)

And is a lesson that one too many porn star martinis :cocktail: at lunchtime can be v bad for your balance ... both physical and bank acccount !

I returned from our March trip on a bit of a downer and the year has continued to be miserable .

Summer dished out its annual dollop of crapitude with my very dear Gran passing away, my Dad being hospitalised in intensive care twice in 4 weeks, exam and uni stress for both boys and assorted ill health and drama in other reaches of the family. :(

My shoulders are so broad I could give Atlas a run for his money. But really, it becomes hard sometimes. :confused2

It was one of those summers when I continually checked for broken mirrors , flattened black cats or other totems of misfortune which must be piling up around the house. :erm:

It’s been just jeffing pants.

Andy got away to Orlando in September , I had really hoped and wanted to go but it just wasn’t to be. So I did have a bit of a sulk on. Although he returned laden with top shopping so all was forgiven ...

You can’t beat M&Ms, stain spray and a new bag to keep the Mrs happy :d:

A few weeks later we had Sunday lunch with friends who kept telling us how amazing Dubai is, lack of jet lag and bargain luxury breaks to be had etc etc. Being somewhat in a martini moment I was hooked.

Quicker than you can say “What no kids, let’s spoil ourselves” , it was booked. :D

Our trip hasn’t been quite such the initial bargain I had planned .. they are definitely there, I just didn’t book one ... opting to go club, stay on the Palm and flying premium. I also applied that special holiday maths logic that means you convince yourself and others you actually saved yourself a fortune and snagged a belter. :thumbs-up

When really I took a day off the total stay to pay for the treats. Simples !

Of course now I’m thinking the stay is too short ...

It’s cost us around £4K

That gets us premium with VA both ways

5 nights in a king premier room at the Waldorf on the palm with half board and club lounge

transfers in the UK and Dubai

tix for the Burj Khalifa

a sand dune buggy trip

I am so not driving that day ... :omg:

and the Hop on Hop off bus .

I’m just waiting on a table reservation for the Burj al Arab

That’s all we have planned . It’s a no plan trip you see. ;);)

I mean when you look at the lounge offer, there is no reason to leave there after 3pm so limited morning activities only on this trip !

What a pants pic. Basically afternoon tea is 3-5, cocktails are 5-8 and canapés are 6-8. Why move I say :D

This is presuming we manage to leave the airport after all the recent faff about prescription meds. :erm:

The rules changed a couple of weeks ago. This would not be a problem if the new rules were easy to interpret.

Every website I check , including official ones, say something just a bit different . But I have a whole other thread running on that. :nonono:

Assuming we are neither deported nor detained then, 5 days of complete self indulgence should follow. :D:pgig:

I have fully embraced the glitzy side of the holiday and over purchased.

What more dresses I hear you cry.
But of course...
I posted these on insta a while back but have since considerably expanded the collection.

I have decided the holiday calls for outfits for breakfast, lunch, cocktails and dinner. Yes more changes of clothes than an episode of Dynasty. :nonono::thumbs-up

Andy doesn’t understand why we need the full allowance of 4 cases for 5 days .. tsk tsk all these outfits require shoes and bags of course !

Oh yes , and this is us

It’s our wedding anniversary the day after we get there.
Hopefully it will be warmer than our Florida wedding day :confused2

Sounds like a great trip you’ve got planned.
We just arrived home from Dubai today, had a lovely time and weather was perfect.

Have a wonderful time, you really will. Dubai is one of our most favourite places. We have really spoilt ourselves too...… we stayed twice at the Burj Al Arab, 3 times at the Al Qasr and 3 times at the Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa, which is one of the most amazing places in the world.

It is truly heaven... well apart from the Atlantis, we hated that.

Have a brilliant time and Happy Anniversary. xxxxxx

I love reading your trip reports, I look forward to this as I have never been to Dubai so will be interested to find out how you got on and what you enjoyed.

I'm so sorry you've been having a rough time.

I'm really interested to hear about your trip. I had my finger poised on the button to book with Emirates for February next year but at the last minute we changed our mind and booked Hong Kong instead!

Dubai is therefore still on the list! Looking forward to reading more x

Thank you. We are having a peek in the Burj al Arab. So many people say such good things about Dubai. I can’t believe it’s taken us so long !

I’ve had confirmation back for our booking at Burj Al Arab. Hurrah. :D

I had wanted to do the cocktails at Gold on 24 but then I read that it’s a place that allows smoking so we binned it. Andys been an ex smoker the best part of 10 years now so it’s just not something that would be enjoyable for us.

Instead we’ve gone for their sunset drinks, DJ and tapas type package at the Scape Lounge. Which means we will also still be able to get back to our hotel for late dinner and the all important cocktails.

Still waiting for Viator to confirm our Burj Khalifa tix slot which is a bit annoying as the availability is getting limited. I only booked with them for a discount. I wish I’d booked direct on the site now.

Now reviewing the in flight film options . Ever the planner ... :pgig:
