Repatriation if stuck

If you are in America and then there is a ban on travel and flights what happens. I assume we get repatriated and not just left there and not able to get home!

in these cases airlines typically run repatriation flights, you may still need to quarantine on the way home if that helps. Insurance would need cover under curtailment with covid reasons to get hotel/ticket refunds or partial refunds

I think some Australians found themselves stuck for some time with the Australian government limiting even it’s own citizens returning, but most countries have continued to allow their citizens travel and even during the travel bans flights were running between the UK and USA for those with exceptions.

I think it gets tricky if you’re working abroad, I know someone who has kids in uk schools but works abroad and it’s been really difficult for them as the kids can’t travel freely back and forward as they had before the pandemic.

I wonder if it's possible to not fly back and stay there in this scenario, or if the US actively want's you out.

We're planning a 90 day trip so if something like this happens early on, I wonder if we could wait it out...

Wishful thinking perhaps.

I believe you can only stay here for 90 days without a visa. But I'm pretty sure your country would allow you to repatriate, and that there would be flights to accomodate you.

Overstay your ESTA and you will need a Visa from then on. Plus you can’t get one at this current time.

It would the same process as every other similar situation. They will arrange flights to get people home.
However I don't think this will happen

New Zealand still has citizens stuck abroad as they have to arrange their hotel quarantine before they can arrange their flights but then they can’t get the flights and so have to go back and start again. It took ds’s next door neighbour 3 months to sort out quarantine hotel and return flights from going back to India for his father’s funeral.
