Virtual Queue for Star Wars Galaxy's Edge
Star wars Galaxy's Edge at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World Florida opens to guests on 29th August 2019. We have already seen what the land will look like and experienced many of the attractions as they are going to be the same as the Disneyland version that opened a few weeks ago in California.
What is different though is the entry system. At Disneyland, a pre-bookable no cost reservation system was put in to place, this limited the number of guests that could access Star Wars Galaxy's Edge at any one time and helped immensely to avoid over crowding and potentially spoiling guests experience. However Disney will not be using this reservation system for WDW and little detail has been released so far as to how Disney intend to manage the initial crowds. The reservation system for Disneyland ends on 23 June and Disney have announced that they will be using a "Virtual Queue" system to control the number of guests allowed in to Star Wars Galaxy's Edge starting 24 June. Although not announced for WDW by Disney, the "Virtual Queue" system is probably what Disney will be using at Disney Hollywood Studios after it opens on 29 August. Below is a video from Disney explaining the Virtual queue system for Disneyland. (starts at 1:04 in the video) https://youtu.be/-yWVhxwKaDM https://cdn1.parksmedia.wdprapps.dis...isojdijfd0.jpg |
It’s good you have to be in the park to do it , still think it will be manic though.

It’s easy to control entry but I still don’t understand how they’re going to get people to leave the area?
I did think ‘electric shocks on the magic bands’ but that wouldn’t work as not everyone has a band. Any ideas? |
We found that after a few hours you naturally had done it all to the point you wanted to leave. Even though we had 4 hour time slots we left before that point on both occasions.
It might be different when ROTR opens as that will add a lengthy queue time but until then there will be a natural exit of people after a 2 to 3 hour period. |
If the virtual queue is hours long I wonder if you'll be able to leave the park and return. I would expect only the people who are there for opening will get slots.
|
Is this not essentially the same concept as a FastPass though? Get a time to return, go enjoy the rest of the park while you wait for your slot... I wonder how it will work if you have small children and will need a rider swap
Never mind just realised this is for the whole land not just the ride! |

I think if WDW use this virtual system it will make the line before opening even worse for 29th-31st August.
When people realise that by 6am or even before all the boarding passes are gone. People will arrive earlier and earlier. It will also turn the rest of HS into a holding pen for SW fans before they called up. The first 20,000 get a boarding pass the next 55,000 stand about HS swiping their phones and spending $s and rest stand outside in the heat. Crowd control! I suspect though this is system WDW is going to use unless it totally fails at Disneyland. |
I’m happy 😀 very happy, although will the system be in place in EEMH? That will mean people offsite may not get a reservation?
