Washington DC hotels
Planning a long weekend in DC for my birthday. We have been before so not looking for a smart hotel. Anyone know of a cheapish place that is near the Metro or other transport?

It's been a few years since we visited but we stayed at the Washington Hilton on Connecticut Avenue NW. It's about half a mile from Dupont Circle Metro Station.
"Fun Fact": This is the same hotel that Ronald Reagan survived an assassination attempt outside in 1981 (on my 10th birthday no less!): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attemp..._Ronald_Reagan I hope you have a lovely time. Unfortunately, we went a few weeks after 9/11 and most public buildings were closed. The Smithsonian buildings and limited parts of Capitol Hill were about the only places open. That said, apart from the usual areas (Arlington Cemetery, Lincoln Memorial and Reflecting Pool) I would highly recommend a trip out to George Washington's Mount Vernon. We loved it. |
We stayed in the Avenue Suites and found it lovely. It's not too expensive, nibbles and wine in the early evening (which we never made it too!) Whole Foods is down the road and the Metro is five minutes away.

We stayed at the Hilton Old Town in Alexandria right beside the Metro station. It’s on King Street which is great for the evenings

We actually stayed at the Hilton on Connecticut Ave last time we were there, a good spot but I’ll check out the others. Thanks

We stayed in the Fairfax at Embassy Row it’s was very good and within walking distance to everything (we like a good walk)

We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Washington DC/U.S. Capitol - literally a 5 min walk round the corner to the metro, it was fine, clean & tidy with a small indoor pool, supermarket two doors up - but we struggled the find places to eat nearby, I remember there being a fast food type place next door but other than that, we tried to eat before heading back to our hotel !
Was naive to think Washington would be like New York, eating places everywhere, not so much where we were staying ! 😂😂 |
Embassy Suites, Georgetown.
Located within walking distance of the Foggy Bottom Metro Station and Dupont Circle Metro Station. We walked around everywhere from here, quite a few local bars and restaurants etc. |
We have stayed at State Plaza which was a small apartment style with a wee kitchen. It was a 5 min walk from metro at Foggy Bottom. We have also stayed at Fairfax on Embassy Row which was close to DuPont Circle.
The Hilton one in Old Town is a great location right across from King Street. We have also looked at the Americana Hotel which is down near Pentagon City metro. Any of these are great hotels in great locations. Washington isn’t a cheap place for hotels though so you may be a little surprised at the cost. |
Yep, found them expensive last time, weekends are much cheaper as all the work visitors leave town. Thanks for the places near transport, they’re the ones for us this time
