Re exams for this year

Those of us wanting to know how exams are going to be marked this year, for our children, going, hopefully to university, the government has released more information.
Seems the teachers will not make the decision.

I read it that they will give their opinions on the grade.

Cherrypie 23 Mar 20 07:17 PM

Are we reading the same thing? It says teachers will give the grades after being given guidance on what to do?

littlelish0544 23 Mar 20 08:30 PM

I read that as the teachers not grading, but giving the advice on what grade should be (i assume a sort of loophole to prevent parents from confronting staff)

Teachers will give an opinion on a grade. The exam board will take that view and other inputs into consideration and normalise to create a final grade. So teacher input is one element but far from final.

My DH is a teacher and has already had Y11 and Y13 parents asking him to improve the predicted grades he previously gave them.

Flowertot 24 Mar 20 01:30 AM

The teachers will be asked to submit predicted grades (most have already done this) we will use assessments students have already completed and their projected grades will also be taken into consideration. This will probably be put into some algorithm that will calculate the final grade. No one knows as yet, but what I do know is that the teacher will play a vital role in this. They are the ones who have taught and nurtured these students for years and want them to get the very best grades they can.

If its anything like what happen in the past with our expereince, predicted grades are not that accurate.

Cannavar 24 Mar 20 01:46 PM

We've accepted that some results will not be what we had hoped DS would have managed but there are the 3 that he is taking for A level for which we will appeal if he doesnt get 9s. He got 9s in his mocks and predicted 9s for them up to this point. If they give him 8s we will 100% appeal. The others he could have got 9s for but we are less worried about those?

BevS97 24 Mar 20 01:55 PM

As long as my daughter is able to continue onto A Levels with her chosen subjects, I am not worried what grades she is given. She hopes to stay at her high school, so I assume they will base their decision on the knowledge that they have about her as much as these grades.
