Reminders of 'old' money - for fun

Those of us 'over a certain age' I guess have mostly got used to 'new' money now but every now and again I get reminded of the cost of stuff these days
I rarely buy chocolate bars so I guess that's why I was going to buy one yesterday and didn't because my brain told me "FIFTEEN BOB for a MARS BAR!" :erm::erm::erm:

Anything that reminds you of the days of shillings and pennies?:d:

I'm 75 so I've lived for 50 years since D-Day in 1971 but only 25 years with old money so I should have got used to it by now.

However - seventeen bob for a first class stamp. That can't be right.

I remember being thrilled if my Birthday card had a Ten Bob note in it….

Imagine the reaction today if 50p fell out 😂😂

I also remember those days. Cards were usually double folded so you had to open them up to check the contents.

My pocket money changed from 1/8 to 8 and a half pence on D day. It was calculated at 8d for to spend on sweets as that was the price of a Mars bar or similar and a shilling to put in my piggy bank

I left school in 1962 and school dinners were a shilling a day - 12 old pence (5p for you youngsters :) )

There was a shop just outside the school gates that sold steak & kidney pies for ten pence and individual Embassy cigs for tuppence.

A good balanced lunch for a 16 year old.

Remember these Mick? To have one was better than winning the lottery….

Is that 1p or 1.5p? (Something you would not bend over to pick up) 😂

When I started driving petrol was 4/11d a gallon.
(It was actually 4/11d halfpenny but I can type that properly!)

A Cortina took 10 gallons to fill up so total cost £2.10s or £2.50p for the younger Dibbers.

My Car took £78 to fill up last week and it wasn't even empty. :erm:

My Nan had a meter in her house for electricity which ran on single shillings -5p- today. God help us if she was cooking and it ran out and nobody had a single shilling. No such thing as credit then.
