Studio Ghibli Museum

Hi has anyone managed to get tickets and visit the Studio Ghibli Museum?

If you have what’s the best chance of success?

We’re looking to go around 23rd/24th July 2018. Thanks in advance :)

Hi Rae I was reading about this yesterday. Apparently 3 months out exactly you have to try to get you date on the site. Failing that, then the 10th of each month they release new tickets. But your best bet is 3 months out. I'll see if I can find the post or link. I've done that much reading, sometimes I forget to book mark and cannot remember where I found it

This isn't where saw it being discussed originally, but this has some good info:

This is the second thing I want to see after Disney Sea!

We managed to get them for next month through the Lawson site https://l-tike.com/st1/ghibli-en/sitetop

They go on sale at 10am (Japan time - so 1am UK in the UK) on the 10th of the month for the following month (so June 10th for the dates you want). We went online at 1am exactly and it was hard work. The site was obviously getting hammered so it took many, many tries to get through. But perseverance paid off. We checked the site again when we got up in the morning and almost everything was sold out, so I would say that you do need to do it at 1am, and keep trying.

Alternatively you can try through these guys http://www.japanspecialist.co.uk/product/ghibli/ (We had left it too late and they had no availability for our preferred dates, hence doing it through Lawson)

Oooo thanks for this! That’s really helpful. You’ll have to let me know if it’s as good as it’s looks. Enjoy yourselves 😄

Just thought I'd update to let you know that we went to the museum on Monday and it was absolutely worth it and as good as it looks. We all really enjoyed it - especially our 6 year old who got to play in the big cat bus - you have to be under 12 for that unfortunately! Don't miss the special film screening on the ground floor!

Edited to add- it's worth getting there a bit earlier than your time. We were 25 minutes early but they were just directing people from our time slot to form a queue. We were about 10th in the queue and actually in before our time slot started. We looked down from the roof 15minutes in to our time and the queue was huge!

Just as an aside guys, the less complicated version [but also more expensive] is buying through viator for the ghibli museum tour :)

Question for the folks that have been - I love the films (Laputa was the first one I saw, one rainy Xmas night on Granada TV, many years ago now...) but what is actually in the museum?

As they do not allow photos inside I have no real idea of what they have there, and do they have a gift shop there?

Just bumping up my question of "what is inside" please.

I quite fancy going to this, my other half has no interest, and think that the merch shops in the few stores around Tokyo might suffice me.

However, can someone explain what is inside?

I loved the films, quite fancy it, but not describing myself as a huge fan that no matter what it has inside, would love.
