Help with phone line and router
I realise this is not Florida related in anyway but im perplexed by what to do with my phone line wire.
The master by phone socket is downstairs and needs to be there to connect to sky. But it’s also connect to our router and the computer is upstairs and across a corridor. The wire is therefore trailing. It already goes up the stairs and under the carpet and into the room, but then trails across. Is it just a case of getting a much much longer wire? Or could the router be downstairs or does it have to be connected to both the phone line and the computer?! Too much for my brain on a Friday morning |
ok, generally speaking, you could have the router downstairs next to the phone socket, and then fit a wireless card into your computer so you dont have to have a cable running all the way up to it...

Does the router definitely not have to be plugged into any computer then for the WiFi network to work?!

Yes, your router has to be connected to a phone line and that's all to give it internet access.
You can then connect to the WiFi signal from the router from any WiFi enabled computer/phone/tablet without it needing to be connected to a computer by a cable first |
if you have a hardcore gamer or something, that could be why youre using a cabled connection. it is faster and less likelihood of interference from other networks/your microwave/etc
if it is just for general browsing/office use/etc then a usb wireless adapter is probably the way forward if your computer doesnt have a card already (some have it built in) |
