New Disney Gondola Transport System coming to WDW
1 Attachment(s)
Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida is to get a new transport system to transport guests between key locations on Disney property.
The new transport system will be Gondola based with each gondola being an enclosed capsule carrying 10 people. There will be six stations/turn points with three connected aerial cables linking EPCOT, Disney Hollywood Studios, Caribbean Beach Resort and the lakeside area between Art of Animation Resort and Pop Century Resort. Disney has previously had a gondola style system which connected Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland and Fantasyland. The system was closed in 1999 after a worker was killed. I was hoping this was just rumours! Not sure how I feel about it, concerned it might be a bit of an eyesore. Time will tell!

The problem with the old Skyway was that teenagers thought it a good game to spit on people from above (there is a famous tale where in one incident it hit a supervisor. He had security waiting for the perpetrators and had then escorted out of the park). So, I'm glad to hear the new system will be enclosed gondolas. The Swiss Chalet which was the Fantasyland terminus was roughly where the Tangled area is today.

I hope that the prices for Pop, AOA and CBR don't go up price wise due to this?
Is this going to be quicker than the buses? or driving? or is it replacing the buses? |

will be interested to see an artists impression of how this is all going to look.

We're staying at POP Aug18. I can't see anywhere on-line that outlines a launch date for this. Hopefully it'll be up and running for when we are there.

yes, was wondering also when it's going to be finished. i've seen reports that it will be ready in time for star wars land, but next summer would be good

I would imagine that queues would move quite slowly at busy periods, and would they still run in storm conditions? I wouldn't want to be on one if it was to temporally stop.
