Natsynoo's Perfect Panamian Adventure: DCL EBPC Oct 2018 - Day 1 Travel & Disneyland

So the alarm sounded at 5.30am, and we headed down for breakfast at 6am. Matt declared himself the champion after consuming 5 sausages, 7 bacon, 4 hash browns, 3 eggs, tomato, and two portions of beans – how he managed all that I don’t know! I had a small serving from the hot buffet, and grabbed a couple of blueberry muffins and pain au raisins to go (I can’t eat that much early in the morning) before heading down to catch our taxi to the terminal.

Our taxi was a few minutes late, but took us in good time to terminal 5 for £14. I had originally planned to catch the bus but with our luggage, we were glad to pay for the taxi. I took it as a good sign when Madonna’s ‘Holiday’ played on the radio as we pulled up at the terminal.

Bag drop and security were done and dusted by 7.20am and so we had a wander around the shops. I bought some perfume, nail varnish and eye shadow in Duty Free (£114), bought a copy of Hello magazine (for Beatrice’s wedding pictures) plus a couple of waters and soft drinks from WHSmith (£8.45) and then we sat for a while waiting for the gate at the main area of the terminal and then the C gates until our flight was called.

We were the last boarding group called at 9.30am. Our flight then left the gate on time at 9.50am where we spent 30 minutes taxiing and were airbourne from 10.35am.

We loved the bulkhead seats – so spacious!

I spent the first portion of the flight catching up on the new seasons of Greys Anatomy and This Is Us. Our lunch was served at 12.15pm, Matt had the chicken tikka masala and I had the tomato & pesto pasta, with some cheese and crackers, and a milk chocolate ganache for dessert. There were also Graze boxes which I packed away for later.

I then watched Book Club on the in-flight entertainment, read my Hello magazine, watched Life of the Party, and was doing some wordsearch puzzles when the Magnums came round. I decline, but Matt had one. Matt watched The Purge, Infinity War, Jurassic World 2, and Rampage.

Finally, I watched Whitney which took us up to landing. We were served a folded pizza and flapjack about 75 minutes before we landed.

I’ve mentioned in my Highs and Not So Highs that we were a little underwhelmed by the BA offering – the service from the cabin crew was quite lack lustre (very few smiles), the food wasn’t as good, no menus (just a little touch from Virgin which makes a different – we were offered chicken or vegetarian, but the chicken was curry, which I don’t eat, so those extra details do matter), and I still can’t understand why we spent about 9 hours of the 11 hour flight in total darkness. It was daytime when we left the UK and daytime when we landed in LA so why all the blinds were closed and the lights were turned off doesn’t make any sense to me?!

Anyway, we were glad to arrive on time at 1.05pm and were through immigration and had our luggage in hand about an hour later, which we were pleased with. Once we found the Uber pick up point, we ordered the car which picked us up at 2.20pm. It cost $52.97 and we arrived exactly an hour later at the Sheraton Park in Anaheim.

We checked in, quickly changed and then walked to Disneyland (via CVS for some drinks - $4.40) and were in Disneyland by 4.15pm. We couldn’t have asked for better than that.

I purchased the Maxpass for each of us ($20) and booked It’s a Small World straight away. Our first stop was Main Street Clothiers to confirm that my coveted sequin spirit jersey was in stock, before heading down Main Street to catch our first glimpse of the Castle!

We were a bit peckish by now so we headed over to New Orleans Square for some Mickey beignets to pass the time before our IASW Fastpass ($9.15).

We used our IASW Fastpass at 5pm, and then booked a Splash Mountain Fastpass to use later that day at 7.40pm.

Next up we rode Indiana Jones which posted a 30 minute wait time (which was closer to 20 minutes, I think).

The wait times were all really long otherwise, so we decided to tick off my shopping list – we had only one and a half days in Disneyland this visit, so we needed to target what we needed to buy and wanted to do and spend our time very wisely – so first of all, I bought some Pandora charms which were on my list to finish my bracelet* for $226.28 including tax. Then, my sequin spirit jersey, Christmas ornament, and Up pin for $119.57 including tax.

At this point, we headed down to the Castle to sit and reflect on a very busy day – we were in England just hours before and now we were in Disneyland at the beginning of this amazing trip, and we felt very fortunate. We also revisited our plans for tonight (just to see Fantasmic) and decided that given how long the wait times were for the rides, we could squeeze in Paint the Night over at California Adventure beforehand.

It was now dinner time and Matt fancied pasta, so we headed over to Alien Pizza Planet in Tomorrowland. Matt had the Nacho Cheese & Chilli pasta, I had the al fredo, which with a large drink came to $23.68.

We got to Splash Mountain at 7.30pm but since we still had 10 minutes to wait so we hopped onto Pooh which had a 7 minute wait. We also popped into the Pooh Corner shop and bought two Disneyland 2018 magnets (one for us, one for Mum), a Mickey waffle toy for my Dad’s new puppy, and another pin set that I wanted, which came to $53.83.

We rode Splash Mountain next, and thankfully escaped a soaking, before heading over to California Adventure for Paint the Night which started at 8.50pm.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4886/...8d0651c7_k.jpg20181017_201918 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr

We managed to get a picture at Cars Land beforehand.

Paint the Night was just wonderful. I loathed the Main Street Electrical Parade (sorry fans) and was devastated when Spectromagic disappeared. Paint the Night brought back my love for night-time parades. It’s really brought the technology back into the 21st century and I can’t wait to see it again in Hong Kong next year!

We left California Adventure at 9.30pm ready to cross over to Disneyland, but having been up for a long time now, we decided it would be more sensible to head back to the hotel, shower, and prepare for tomorrow, and we could catch Fantasmic tomorrow too.

Our heads hit the pillow at 10.30pm, and needless to say it didn’t take long for us to fall asleep!

I don't know lol - adrenaline? - but we're so glad we did because we managed to do all of our big ticket items in 1.5 days!

Thanks for reading!

Wow that's some day. We're normally ready for bed when we arrive in Orlando. Uber looks like the way to go.

Yes Uber works really well for us when in the States without a car!

Maxpass is like a Fastpass that you pay for - in Disneyland, Fastpass is the old style where you have to walk to the machines to get a paper ticket, but with Maxpass, it enables mobile Fastpass bookings and you get a Photopass included. It's $10 pp per day, but it saved us the walking across the park to pick our next Fastpass and made such a difference to our trip! Hope that helps!
