Dolphin Swim at Discovery Cove

I have seen many members of theDIBB forums asking if a Dolphin Swim at Discovery Cove is worth it. What sort of experience is the Dolphin Swim and what actually happens?

I have been lucky enough to visit Discovery cove several times now. I have been with and without a Dolphin Swim but I do feel it is a special part of the day.

The whole experience is about 30 minutes long and you do have to attend a briefing and orientation session shortly before your swim. When you arrive at Discovery Cove as part of the check in process they will assign you a swim time.

You will not be allowed to take in cameras with you or any items of jewellery such as necklaces. Wedding rings are acceptable and watches. Just nothing that could come off easily. So leave all that in a locker.

Discovery Cove do offer photo packages of the Dolphin Swim that they make available for purchase in various options. They no longer offer a video of the Dolphin Swim as they used to.

My video of the Dolphin Swim experience was filmed with permission of Discovery Cove and permission was obtained along with various forms signed with the PR team at DC for theDIBB. It is not something they would normally allow for individuals or groups.

Is the Dolphin Swim worth it? Absolutely! Plus the fact that a day at Discovery Cove with the Dolphin Swim is not much more than buying 3 park tickets to SeaWorld, Aquatica and Busch Gardens. It makes perfect sense to book Discovery Cove with the other three parks included, for an amazing day and an unforgettable experience.

We did this about 14 years ago and loved it. I remember our dolphin swim time was postponed twice and we were told it was because the dolphin wasn't ready to come out and we would have to wait until she wanted to play!

The park itself had a very relaxed atmosphere and because they limit the number of visitors it was nice not having to queue or fight for space. Would highly recommend :thumbs-up

We’ve done this and had a great time; we won’t be back as our views on performing animals has evolved - like many I suspect.

We did it in Oct 18
Booked a private cabana as well as the swim
Was definitely the best day of our 3 week holiday
When did they stop doing the DVD as we got one in October

We’ve done this 4 times now, 3 with dolphin swim and bouy and 1 no swim. All with cabanas.
1st time was for my 60th birthday, next DDs 40th and lastly for DSs 30th birthday.
Absolutely love it, so special and a relaxing day away from all the crowds. Not doing it this year, hope we don’t regret it.:wavey:

That’s such a shame
We still watch the DVD regularly
Granddaughter always insists we put it on

Thanks for sharing. It’s really nice to see what is involved as well as read about people’s experiences. This is definitely something we’d like to do next year as it is a special birthday trip.

Been today for the first time after all our visits. We loved it our two ds aged 17 and 13 said it's been the best day if the holiday. Would highly recommend and the dolphin swim and interaction was great. We even saw a proposal in our group with the dolphin assisting :)
