FINAL THOUGHTS AND FUTURE PLANS

Hi everybody! Welcome to my fifth food report! I’m so pleased to doing another one. Like most people it’s later than I had planned, it should have been 2021 that this was supposed to be done but better late than never. All good things and all that.

I’m kicking off with about 6 weeks to. A little pre trip amuse bouche. As usual, this is going to be overly long and over the top. The War and Peace of food reports.

*disclaimer. May contain gags from my other reports that I’ve forgotten I’ve already done before;)

So an introduction if you’ve not read my previous reports.

Me: George: 46 years young. My plan, my rules.
DW: Kelly: 45 in reality her rules and disregards my plan,
DD1: Evie Mae: 15
DD2: Lily Belle: 13

Here is a link to the previous reports.
THE CHRONICLES OF FATTY 2012-2019. ALL MY FOOD REPORTS

And full trip reports.
ALL IN ONE PLACE 2012-2019 Trip Reports

So like my other reports I’ve been dieting(to be fair to myself, I’ve actually been exercising) like crazy for the last few months. I kind of see myself like the boxer Ricky Hatton. In between fights(trips to Florida) I balloon up in weight but when I’ve got a fight arranged(trip to Florida) I get myself in shape ready to fight(eat). I’ve currently lost around about 20lbs. Hoping for a bit more before we go. I’m getting myself in prime fighting(trip eating)weight.

It’s a slightly different report than what I had originally intended. It was going to be a cheeky ménage a trios combo of Disneyland in Anaheim, Universal Orlando and Disney World. We had California booked but I got spooked about the strict vaccination rules for LA. When I decided to cancel it was required that for many venues, children under 16 would need two jabs or do a test to enter. At the time in the UK kids were only having one jab. Of course that’s all changed and both my girls have now had two jabs. D’oh!

Oh well. Never mind. We will get to Disneyland one day.;)

THE PLAN

Kind of like BaronHarkonnen from Dune, “I have plans within plans”

So it’s a 22 night split stay between Universal and Disney:)

5 nights Universal Cabana Bay
5 nights Universal Royal Pacific Resort
12 nights Disney All Star Music.

This is also going to be a different time of year for us to be going as well. Normally we go in May so this will be a first for us in August.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

On thing to say straight off the bat is that this report might be live, it might not be. I’m sure some of it will be but I’ll just see how it goes.

I’m also not going to plan everything meal right down to the minute(sort of;)). That’s not to say I won’t have a big list that I’m aiming to get as close as possible to.

But after 4 previous trips I’ve finally caught on that things NEVER EVER GO TO PLAN! There are places I want to go but some places are definitely not set in stone.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

That’s not to say the quality of this report will be less. Oh no Dear Readers!

I plan on this one being my biggest, boldest and best of all my reports. I will be Daniel Laruso and the the restaurants of Florida will be Cobra Kai waiting for me to crane kick them in the head. (I picture Mr Miyagi giving a knowing look of approval from the side)

Which restaurants will be Johnny Laurence and the fight for The All Valley Championship? The meme will give it away but more on that later. I tell you one thing. Fear does not exist in my food dojo.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Go on, admit it. Joe Esposito’s “You’re The Best(around)” is now in your head;)

Ok, enough Karate Kid and on with the food plans.

I wish I could say there has been a great meeting of the minds of my family to decide where we will be eating but in all honesty no such council has taken place. They just let me get on with it. Realistically the family know that I’ll have a major sulk on if I don’t get to go to the places I want to go to so another reason they let me get on with it.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Will there will be fine dining? Not really no. We love a themed restaurant so there will be quite a few of those. It will be steak, burgers, pizza, hot dogs and fried chicken oh my! Mix in some Mexican, Chinese, Italian and the odd Disney buffet. Ice cream, cakes, cookies and snacks ahoy! A couple of nicer places might sneak in.

A cheeky alcoholic beverage might make a guest appearance on the occasional times I won’t be driving.

Fans of supermarket food porn will get their kicks as well.

THE JOURNEY

We will be flying BA from Gatwick to Tampa. So we start off in my own typical style. I said to DW that I have no interest in booking a lounge so of course I’ve gone and booked the No.1 Lounge at Gatwick South. I confuse myself.

For the flight we generally don’t do plane food. It’s usually pretty vile so I think we will just buy sandwiches at the airport somewhere. A feast for the eyes with our packet sandwiches.;) I’ll show the plane food if anyone of us braves it.

CABANA BAY: 5 NIGHTS

So our arrival at Cabana Bay will be fairly late after the drive up from Tampa so I’m sure it will be a fairly simple food court meal for our first Florida eats. I’ll try and show up to date menus and prices as I know many will be staying here. I’ll more than likely get refill mugs here as well.

We have a few definite plans for our 5 nights here.

First day will be a quick pop into Islands Of Adventure specifically to ride Hagrids. Snack breakfast and then it’s The Cheesecake Factory for lunch followed by a supply run at Target.

Day 2 will be Kennedy Space Centre, grab and go breakfast, something to eat there for lunch. I’m really hoping to go to Cocoa Beach from there for food near the beach like the Rikki Tiki Tavern on the pier or Coconuts On The Beach. I really hope to go there as always wondered why Alan B. Shepherd and the rest of the Mercury 7 spent more time there than being astronauts.

Day 3 is Busch Gardens, I’m thinking of Cracker Barrel en route for breakfast. This is a great place for breakfast. Personally I think the best pancakes. Hoping the girls don’t spend the whole time arguing like the did the last time we went to CB:(

I am desperate to finally get to Mannys Original Chophouse so back via Haines City on the way home. Hopefully.

Day four will be Outlets at the top of International Drive. I’m thinking of giving Hash Houseagogo another go. First time was ruined by the hard sell photographer that I was too scared to tell go jog on. He didn’t understand the universal British language that when a man says “right” that means that’s enough. It was a real shame but I’ll man up this time and be firm and say “not today sir, not today.”

ROYAL PACIFIC AND UNIVERSAL THEME PARKS: 5 NIGHTS

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

I don’t think any outside breakfast locations for this part of the holiday. Breakfast from stuff we have in the room will be the norm. So donuts and crisps. As in all my previous reports if Jamie Oliver is reading, (come on he might be) I apologise for the diet my kids have.

We will probably try for 6 pretty full days at the Universal parks. We absolutely love Universal. Dare I say I’m a little more excited for this than Disney.

I also have some left over Universal dining plan credits from previous trips to use as well. They stopped selling the plan but I’m still able to redeem them which is good. I have a few drinks, 2 snacks, 2 adult meals and 2 kids meals to use which is a nice bonus.

I’m hoping we will try the Leaky Cauldron instead of The Three Broomsticks as we’ve never been before.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

The quick service locations in the park we will choose from are Mel’s Diner, Croissant Moon Bakery and Burger Digs. The new Today Cafe might get a visit as some of the sandwiches look great. We will just see what takes our fancy at the time. We will however more than likely pop into City Walk for BreadBox which was our favourite Q/S location last time and maybe Panda Express.

For dinner I’ve booked several places at Citywalk. Toothsome, Margaritaville, Vivo Italian Kitchen and The Cowfish. The latter we’ve always wanted to go but never made it. Evie has requested it as she loves sushi.

These were booked through the Universal website. https://www.universalorlando.com/web...s/reservations. Some of these can be booked 6 months in advance.

I’ve decided for our 5 nights at Royal Pacific Resort that I’m going to put the car keys away and forget about driving apart from one day. I’m not a big drinker but it could be “just the one(or two) Mrs Wembley” during this part. I’d like to have a Margarita at Margaritaville!

The one day we will head out of the Universal bubble is when I have to annoyingly switch cars at MCO( a hangover from the cancelled LA trip) so we will go to Sonny’s BBQ near MCO as I got me a hankerin for some BBQ. Convenient no;)

Really looking forward this part of the holiday before moving on.

ONSITE DISNEY ALL STAR MUSIC: 12 NIGHTS

So this will be the big difference this time. No dining plan.

This is hard to take. Having the dining plan on our last four visits has been amazing. But it is what it is so hey ho and we move on.

We have the dining credits and giftcard. We are actually in two rooms at All Star Music so we have 2 lots of credits and 2 giftcards. It will basically pay for a quick service meal each and a snack each per day. Not to be sniffed at. I don’t think we will plan these too much.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

We will just see on the day on what park we happen to be at for quick service. I would like to get food somewhere in Galaxies Edge though for definite. Snacks won’t be planned too much either but I have been studying these so I know roughly where to head. Think Egg roll cart in Adventureland;) I will also be having me some blue milk.

ADRS I always over thought, over planned(shock, horror) and it was always a bit of a pain trying to plan these and absolutely no different this time!

We’ve been lucky to do many of the places before on our previous trips in the glory days of free DDP. In all honesty I have chopped and changed my mind quite a bit about how many ADR’s we’d be doing and if we be going offsite for some meals or not. In the end we are pretty much sticking with Disney. It’s more expensive yes but I still just have this pull to stay onsite for as much as our time as possible. Offsite is cheaper for sure but hoping time saved and being in the bubble will compensate for this.

So what table service meals are we going to eat in Disney?

Just to add, and that’s not every every meal, but definitely looking at my list there’s a hoping for redemption theme running through this.

In no particular order.

Tusker House for Donald’s Safari breakfast is a must. We’ve done this on all four previous trips. It’s our favourite. I am disappointed it’s family style rather than the buffet though. I’m hoping we will be able to get a picture with Mickey. I have one on each of our last four visits with the girls and Mickey as they get older. The fifth picture is a very personal must for me.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=boundsFirst trip 2012

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=boundsLast trip 2019

Chef Art Smiths Homecomin. You know when Homer Simpson thinks about food? That’s me and their fried chicken. This was always going to be an easy choice to visit again.

Space 220 Lounge. For me this is purely for the experience. The full menu doesn’t excite me especially at that price. This was the hardest ADR to get. In the end I had to book it for a party of 2 but twice. Both are the same time so hoping they will seat us together. In all honesty we will share a couple of items just to be able to experience the restaurant and that’s it. I’ve also kind of got Lily believing that you actually do go up to space in a space lift. Look she’s 13 and still believes in Santa.

Beaches and Cream, loved it last time. Our last visit was in the old place so looking forward to seeing the extension. Another difficult ADR to get which was surprising. Also an excuse to ride The Skyliner close by.

50’s Prime Time Cafe gets another chance. Amazing experience first time, bang average second time so hoping this will have more Redemption than Shawshank Prison. Your server makes it. A good one ramps up the whole experience.

Ohana. The elephant in my room. My personal nemesis. We’ve tried 3 times for dinner and it always been a disaster. The food is great but we’ve had grumpy, moody father in law(twice 2012 and 2015), arguing kids (2012, 2015 and 2017) and a kid sick at the table (2017) DW upset at the table(2015 and 2017). Even after all that I’ve still been giving it serious consideration after leaving it alone in 2019.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

I’m the end I’ve decided to give it another go. Bucket list item. Come out of an Ohana dinner happy.;)

The Plaza. We’ve been for brunch before and in all honesty I wasn’t blown away but going to give it a go for an early dinner before MNNSHP(more on that later). One thing I was desperate to try in Disneyland was The Monte Cristo. This has been added to the menu here so I’m Counting on The Monte Cristo being all it’s cracked up to be.(Did you see what I did there? Handsome and witty, sorry ladies but I’m a married man).
*rumour has it it’s been removed from the menu:( I’m hoping this is a vicious lie.

The Crystal Palace. We did this several years ago for breakfast and the girls got creeped out by a weird server and we’ve not returned. Very odd man but we love a Disney buffet and as it’s not a character meal it’s much cheaper;) This will be for dinner before the fireworks. I’m secretly hoping he still works there;)

Whispering Canyon Cafe. We’ve not been since 2012. I still am haunted by my in laws faces when someone on the next table asked for ketchup. Luckily they aren’t here with us.(this also applies to Ohana. See above). The breakfast skillet looks amazing. If your not in the know you can also get a BBQ style skillet at breakfast as well. Anyone not think I’m up to the challenge of ribs for breakfast? Challenge accepted.

Raglan Road. Booked four times previously and cancelled all four times. This time we are going!

Chef Mickey’s(maybe). I have this booked for breakfast for our last full day. This may get cancelled if spends have been more than anticipated. I wasn’t planning on booking this and was a spur of the moment decision.

The Landry Card is definitely going to get an outing as well.

Plus I ordered a new card in Kelly’s name so we actually get to use the birthday reward for real;) First time ever:) I will use this offsite earlier on the holiday at Saltgrass Steakhouse which is a Landry location.

A returning favourite will be Yak and Yeti on Kelly’s birthday, her choice, we all like it there though.

Rainforest Cafe is another must do for us as a family. Kelly and I first went on our honeymoon in 2006 and we’ve been every time since so another tradition I’m trying to keep.

Oga’s Cantina. Not for food but just to go. I just have to! I can feel DW Kelly rolling her eyes when I inform(tell) her we are going here. I’ll leave this until the day to tell her;)

Steakhouse 71. This will be our final meal of the trip. Normally we are over fed and over tired and I get suckered in by the thought of a nice meal to finish. At this point we feel like we’d need an exorcism to want to eat again by the end of the holiday. So if anyone knows an old priest and a young priest in the Orlando area that would be great and so maybe Steakhouse 71 will end up being a success.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

I still may see what’s available each day at Disney as well just to see what’s what at short notice. Indecisive much.

A first for us is Food And Wine Festival. We tend to do the World Showcase as a separate day from mid afternoon and I was thinking of Beaches And Cream first but then I changed my mind to a table service at Epcot before the fireworks. But in all honesty nothing really stands out at Epcot for us so seeing as the F&W festival is on we are just going to eat our way round the world instead! I’m sure it will be quite expensive but we have dining credits to use on that day plus what I had thought of the table service meal so I’m sure it will be good.

Let’s hope DW doesn’t get on the sauce and be one of those embarrassing drunks you here about at during the festival!

One more thing that will be new for us is we are doing Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party. Really excited to be doing this! We’ve always been in May before so we’ve not been able to go to one of the parties before. It’s expensive but I’m really looking forward to it. So I will post all the snacks and treats we get as well.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

So that’s it:)

I’ll have my highs and lows, best and worst etc at the end and any potential future plans.

If anyone wants to take any side bets on how much this will be different from advertised then I suggest going by percentages then that gives a nice wide range. I’ll start by saying this will be 47.3% different from advertised;)

I hope you enjoy and again all comments welcome apart from bad ones:)

Thanks for reading

George:)

A hilarious start and I'm betting 67.4% different! I've also been doing well on the diet front with the intention of eating all the food and drinking all the cocktails in Florida. Love the fight analogy.

Seriously I hope you have an absolutely wonderful trip with your girls. You've got some absolutely fabulous places on your list. I can't wait to see how it unfolds.

Thank you:) Good luck with your diet. I didn’t really start until just after Easter and I’m really annoyed with myself that I didn't start a couple of months earlier as I would have been in my best shape probably since I was 19!

I’m going try my best to stick my list but that a good guess at 67.4% different :)

Really looking forward to this report! Sounds like an amazing trip... have a wonderful time:)

Disneycraft 24 Jun 22 07:28 AM

Bloody brilliant can’t wait :pgig: we go 2nd august so if I see a grown man marching his family at speed to the egg roll cart I’ll know I’ve found you :d::d::d:

Sparksy72 24 Jun 22 07:53 AM

Fantastic start! 😁 lots of awesome restaurants on your list and I am genuinely interested to see how many you manage. We always have high hopes of going to loads of restaurants but then the heat and tiredness kicks in and we end up eating snacks and frozen Minute Maid lemonade 😂 I hope your Ohana visit is perfect- after your previous experiences I think you all deserve it! I’m looking forward to following along 😁

SuziQz 24 Jun 22 08:14 AM

Great to see the whole plan together and well done on the weight loss so far. Got my fingers crossed for your Ohana visit.

I’ll have more faith in your current list and say it’ll only change by 38% 🤣
