Our Epic 7 Day NYC Trip - Day 5

I got up a little later today (around 8am) but Dan was awake quite early.
Once showered and dressed we caught an Uber to the SS Intrepid, Air, Space and Sea Museum on Pier 83.
We looked at getting a subway there but it didn’t seem easy and we weren’t sure about the buses so this was the easiest option.
We arrived at 9:50am and joined the short queue to get in.

The SS Intrepid is a decommissioned war ship and aircraft carrier and has several attractions such as a Concorde, The Enterprise Space Shuttle, a submarine and more.

We went to the flight deck first and looked at the planes on the deck and then went into to the Space Shuttle pavilion.

We had a picture taken as usual and made our way in.
The space shuttle pavilion is done nicely and there are exhibits around it, you can also go onto a platform and get a closer look. Once we had looked around we then had a look in the gift shop where I bought a cool space scarf.

We then looked at a stealth bomber and other planes on the flight deck.

We then went to the flag deck (this is the highest point of the ship where the captain sits when commanding the ship) ** if you’re looking to visit there are some steep steps which you have to climb down backwards and some narrow passageways just incase you are not able to manoeuvre that sort of situation but I was ok despite my fat butt.

We then went to look at the museum section inside where more planes were based and looked at the anchors and where the sailors would have slept.

Dan wanted to visit the submarine so I waited in the sun whilst he went inside (I didn’t fancy it - was worried id get stuck or claustrophobic) When he came back he said he enjoyed it and said I would have been fine.

It was now 1pm so we headed out and walked over to Pier 84 for our circle line cruise. We opted for the 2.5 hour cruise which circumnavigates the whole of Manhattan and we’re really glad we did.

The views of lower Manhattan, the skyline, Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges and the statue of liberty were fantastic. The commentary was also great and we learnt a lot about the whole of Manhattan and not just the touristy places.

Theres also a cafe onboard and I had a cream cheese bagel and Dan had a hot dog and we shared a Twix.

What I didn’t realise was whilst it was warm but a little overcast and breezy was my skin was slowly getting sunburnt and by the end of the cruise did I notice that my skin was red hot and clearly sunburnt- more on that tomorrow eek.

We caught another Uber once we got off the cruise and headed to the Rockefella centre. The ice rink was still up and we watched people skating for a little while before we went to get our tickets for top of the rock.
We were told to come back at 5:45pm an hour later so we killed time looking in the shops like the NBC Shop (Dan got a Brooklyn 99 T-shirt), PIQ, and stopped for a Starbucks.

It was soon time to head up the top of the rock, again through the security and after the obligatory pictures taken we headed up. The lift didn’t take long and was interactive again, this time you could see the lifts inner workings as it rises to the top of the tower.
Once the lift had reached the top we exited and realised quickly that the views up there were amazing, it is definitely the best view of the 3 observatories we visited, it was also dusk so the sun was shining our way and looked fantastic.

We spent an hour up there and then went back down to look at more shops such as FAO Schwartz and the Nintendo store.

We then headed towards our meal reservation at Del Frisco’s (top notch steakhouse).
We arrived at Del Frisco’s a little early (15 minutes before reservation time) which wasn’t a problem. We were a little underdressed (although some other tourists were in there in jeans too).
Our server Ryan took our drinks order. I went for a cocktail. It was a honey and bourbon cocktail and was delicious but very strong and Dan had a Jack and Coke (These were $18 each by the way eek).

For our meal we both ordered 8oz filet mignon and two sides of Chateau mash and Potatoes au gratin all of the food was incredible, the steaks were melt in the mouth and the sides wonderful.

We also had a second cocktail each what I was baffled by was how tipsy I was after two cocktails but they were very generous with the alcohol for sure. We also had dessert.
Dan had a chocolate Mousse and I had butter cake - both were incredible.

The whole Meal was very expensive $280 with tip but it was very, very good.

We caught another Uber to the hotel and were back for 9:30pm but knackered and a bit tipsy. We slipped into a coma soon after.
