Sights,Bites and Maltese Delights. Malta Oct 21. Day 5. In search of a sports bar in Sliema
Sunday 3 October
Last night we had decided that we would spend Monday doing a bit of sightseeing and spend the day in Valletta so i had spent quite a bit of the evening time doing some research and was looking forward to it. I also took stock of the cocktail count so far. Looking good. In anticipation of being out all day tomorrow, we had a lazy day planned today. We went down late for breakfast and didnt move from the wooden cabana until 3.30. We were then heading off to Sliema in search of a place to watch the Liverpool v Man City game. And were eyeing up Salisbury Arms pub I dont know who does the walking for Apple maps but they must be sure quicker than us. :erm: It was also hot today and , in true spirit of our renowned navigational crapitude we should have turned uphill when we got to Balluta Bay but carried on around the sea front - thus doubling the walking :erm: It was very nice though walking along the promenade Some of the apartments would have had gorgeous bay views We did turn uphill. Malta is deceptively hilly ! This was so lovely tucked at the end of a narrow street - so ornate. Thought the wiring looked a bit dodgy in places You could just see Valletta in the distance here And the bay the other way When we got to the pub, I wasnt thrilled by it - quite poky and appaz fully booked for the game so we just had a quick drink and headed back off thinking there must be loads of places showing the game. Andy had been half hoping to try out their roast dinner too :( We walked and walked and not a single place. :omg: We were almost at the point of calling a taxi when we passed Bocconcino on the waterfront and hurrah - we could see they had the footy on.:thumbs-up They were a few others in there so there was some friendly footy chat which was nice. Having yomped around half of Sliema we were a bit peckish so shared some starters - cheesy garlic bread and a caprese salad. They were both really tasty. I had a Blue lagoon cocktail (vodka, Blue curaçao and cream soda). It may look like Aquafresh mouthwash ;) but it was very refreshing. A very decent bill. 3 pints for 10euros! We ordered the hotel car for half time and were back to watch the second half in the hotel. There were quite a few others and the bar was busy. Perhaps we should have stayed here ! I eyed up the desserts but didn’t fancy any And went for an Angelface cocktail instead We shared a chicken burger - it had a delicious pesto Mayo And another v reasonable bill We didn’t do much after that . I spent more some time looking at walking routes and working out which museums we might want to go into tomorrow. |
Cocktails and food all look lovely!

I remember the hills seemed to come out of nowhere in Malta and some are very steep. Some nice photos of Sliema. I'm glad you managed to find somewhere to watch the football.

We thought there would be more atmosphere in a bar but it was probably better back at the hotel ! |
We are booked for a quick birthday break in Sliema in the spring. I’m packing my walking sandals after reading this ! :)

A lovely relaxing day although a long route in getting to watch the football - craptitude 😂
