I think you may want to ask this question again in a few months, as things may change once the tower has opened, for example: they may change the order of bus stops pick up - the order is currently casitas - ranchos - cabanas - el Centro, so this for us was an added bonus of being in the casitas and getting on the bus first (on a few occasions the bus was quite packed by the time it was leaving the resort). The distances across the resort will be significantly shorter once the bridges are open, so that too changes things. The ranchos, for example, appealed to us style-wise, but we felt they were too far away from everything else, so we preferred the casitas on that basis. We also preferred to be away from the not-quite-finished tower, so preferred not stay in the cabanas. I suppose, like much else, it's down to personal preference. Have a look at some walk-through videos of the resort on youtube.

Just throwing something in here as well, saw a video yesterday showing that the 3 new bridges across the lake opened for use which certainly changes walking times between some of the areas. The restaurant on the lake which is connected to the bridges is also nearing opening

We stopped in Ranchos - building 7A.

Lovely and quiet area, easy to get to the bus stop- would 100% stop there again.

Only downside is that it was a 10 minute walk to the main lobby/restaurants. Which in theory meant if you we're in you're room and wanted to get a snack it was a 25 minute round trip.

Completely agree with some of the posts above - the new bridges and the fact the main Tower will be the new lobby it could completely shift the dynamic of the resort. Definitely worth keeping an eye on over the coming months.
