Card fraud

Someone’s had a field day with my card overnight.
I’m currently on hold to the fraud team.
I received a text to say my card had been stopped due to suspicious activity and then an automated call to ask me to ring a particular number which I did not do just in case. (I called the number on the back of the card)
I’ve been on hold for ages though and actually I can’t do so for much longer. Hope I get through soon as they said
‘you must take action’
What action?!
Not a great start to the week

*I usually have to verify transactions so I’m not sure how this has been bypassed

So sorry, lots of this going on at the moment, as times get tougher it will get worse.

You are doing the correct thing. It may very well be scam messages and calls. We had a similar thing recently.

as above sounds like a scam , 100% call the number on your card, if anyone rings you dont ring back on same phone or be 'put through' to correct department

It was indeed a call from my bank.
Someone has treated themselves to some gaming related stuff, accounting services (a very strange one to pay for with stolen details?) and a slap up meal presumably with plentiful drinks! $$$$$
Annoyingly, presumably they have of course got away with it because there aren’t the resources to investigate who did it

New card on the way.
That’s never happened to me before and really does reinforce my rule of never using a debit card online.
This was all quickly and easily sorted whereas a debit card is apparently a lot more hassle.

Glad you're sorted and the card issuers are sending a new card

I had £3000 taken from mine a while ago, so glad it was a credit card so not my money.

Had similar thing happen to me this morning, had an automated call from credit card company (MBNA) regarding unusual activity etc .. turns out my card was fraudently used by 'UBER Canada' 4 times over the weekend ! .. 4 trips all costing between £40 - £75! and all in Canada ! luckily all got sorted out pretty quickly and new card on its way

Several years ago someone used our credit card to pay for their wedding flowers, not the smartest.
Our bank was quick off the mark & quickly sorted. We're with Barclaycard & they often stop transactions to check with us before authorising. While it's a PITA is does reduce the risk.

Always find the banks phone number yourself, never ask to be transferred . Always hang up if your bank calls, wait a few moments then call your own looked up number. If possible call from another phone.
