Triple Treat Tour July 2016 Day 12 Discovery Cove

The day before is HERE

Thursday 14 July

Ah, been really looking forward to today, a little piece of paradise:D

We were on our way by 0745 and for once the roads were really quiet so we arrived not long after 0800.

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psjufgviwt.jpg

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psdeqwylae.jpg

But they had these wee fellas out to distract you

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps4w7mhzax.jpg

That’s it. I need an armadillo in my life

They were just too cute !

All checked in an we are on our way . Which reminds me now as a I type this that I don’t know where our photo is from the start of the day . Need to go for a rummage later

Its as beautiful as we remember from 4 years ago

Jamie decided the walk to the lockers had already been enough exercise for the day

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...pspvscrrgn.jpg

Finding lockers was a bit of a faff and I ended up walking a fair way to find one for my bag , only to return to discover Andy had bagged one right opposite where we were sitting. Not amused

We had bagged some loungers in the shade and near the restaurant

At least we used them

Several loungers near us had been claimed already and not a soul appeared on them all day – I moved the towels off them in the end as other people were looking for seats in the shade by the afternoon .

Totes annoying peeps that do this ghost lounging ……:(

Not as annoying as the REALLY LOUD< LETS SHOUT EVEN THOUGH WE ARE RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER AND ALL TALK AT THE SAME TIME SO IT COMPLETELY SHATTERS THE PEACE> – family that returned ominously several times eyeing up a few empty spaces. :omg:

Happily it didn’t meet their liking and they trundled off – obviously not connected to the stink eye I was directing at them ;)

Andy and I headed off for breakfast , which we though was nicer than our last visit

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...pscuujb1oy.jpg

The teens ran off and we plonked ourselves on the loungers – and really didn’t do a lot else.

We didn’t fancy the aviary and I wasn’t ready to brave the water yet , so nothing for it but just a bit of busy doing nothing time .

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psgrwejsvz.jpg

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psen18tldm.jpg

At some point I set off in search of cold beverages and met these three

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psnkl9gpni.jpg

Beverages located successfully

The mango cocktail was very nice

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psqvwap45r.jpg

Who knew sand could be so interesting

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psas6xpjdx.jpg

That’s the thing with these teen types – they keep coming back !

In search of sustenance obviously

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psvtxarcia.jpg

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...pshj6pbrhm.jpg

Notice Mum's cunning use of umbrella there to store the snorkels and so we could spot our seats easily

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psbm3fly78.jpg

Complete genius on my part …..

The boys came back from the “lazy” river

Jamie had a really sore and raw looking knee graze

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psgxbbc5bn.jpg

But didn’t want a plaster or anything on it – it did look painful

As we had spent several hours doing nothing, we went for a circuit on said river to work up an appetite for lunch

Andy went off ahead of me

I didn’t have my glasses on

I cant see without my glasses:omg:

Its not like he is a small bloke

But he could have been a tree for all I can see :erm:

I am wandering round hopelessly so Jamie escorted me like an old granny to the edge of the water where Andy is stood waving his arms like Windy Miller and looking a right numpty waiting for me , bless him.

I managed to scrape the top of my foot and my knee – that is rough surfacing in there

But we had a lovely time just floating around , me not really seeing anything except a foot of water in front of me but Andy telling me about the lovely birds that we were passing

All that exertion required refuelling – Nick and Jamie had already stocked up

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psme3qd4bd.jpg

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psj9oxi8m6.jpg

WileyCoyote 26 Aug 16 08:29 AM

We thought lunch choices were a bit better than our last visit too

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psx6ingeoi.jpg

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psn8zlvfr6.jpg

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps2vpacfo3.jpg

I had the Hawaiian chicken

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psdrwqmujq.jpg

With a nice salad and key lime pie ... The pie was a bit too dense though .

And a nice glass of white wine

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psbttc8m4d.jpg

Andy just had burger and a beer

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psgrcxpll1.jpg

Connor had the pulled pork ... Which he said was cold. This child's food is always cold .

He liked the cake and fruit though

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psxrnljfep.jpg

The teens topped up on snacks during the afternoon

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psseh3mbzo.jpg

I had a pina colada cocktail which was just horrible – Another Dibber likened it to tasting like soap in her trippie – yes, that’s it , liquid soap, bleurgh:(

So bad, I had to wash the taste away with another mango one:d:

It was around now that the genius snorkel storage proved problematic

I blame the fact I didn’t have my specs on and cant see very far;)

The teens blame 3 cocktails and a glass of wine all before mid afternoon :omg:

I managed to smack my head right off the offending snorkels .

And almost tripping up on the sun lounger as I staggered backwards, somewhat concussed and confused by a seemingly moving umbrella :erm:

Teens thought it was hilarious

Pride and forehead disproportionately smarting from said incident , I retired to my lounger for safety:D

It certainly wasn’t packed out here today

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...pskagkceie.jpg

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psqowalkop.jpg

We watched the dolphin swims for a bit – Connor decided to go solo over to the ray pool – not realising there is no shade and getting burned shoulders as a result. :nonono:

It was getting a little overcast and very muggy and we were starting to feel that we would be packing up soon - all that lying around , well , it just wears you out.

We decided to go and find Connor – Jamie and I , so that’s me who cant actually see and Jamie , who also needs glasses for distance and can see about a foot further than me :nonono:

And everyone is in the same vests of course

So after many minutes of pointless “ is that him” ? enquiries from me, we gave it up as a bad job and returned to the loungers

To discover he wasn’t there at all, he had gone back to the other side and met up with Andy already !:confused2

We headed for home around 3pm

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psapmyst5f.jpg

Reservoir Dogs did Discovery Cove

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psqemrqbk8.jpg

After a bit of pool and nap time at the Villa we headed across the road at Formosa Gardens to the Bonanza Golf place

We paid for two games so we could return later in the trip

Nothing like anarchic mini golf to round off the day

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psaeqgtkbd.jpg

Its very serious stuff

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psr562eb6d.jpg

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psag69gmg7.jpg

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...pseh8zs7iy.jpg

I cant remember who won – I know it wasn’t Nick as he managed to finish last on both games.

I think it may have been a tie between Andy and Connor that continued to be hotly disputed over dinner !

It was feeling quite muggy and close by the time we arrive here for dinner

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psac49o5bi.jpg

We have always liked Applebee's.

But

The menu has changed and all my favourites on the appetiser menu have gone ( I had already decided I was having the potstickers and meatballs but they were no longer on there )

There seemed a shortage of waiting staff

Some of the food had a weird taste... Andy said it was like TCP.

It took us weeks after returning home to realise this wasn’t the food at all but the Listerine mouthwash we had used before coming out.

Duh !

Anyway. We chose here as we were peckish but not starving so this felt like a good choice as knew it had the build your own appetiser menu.

The food was not bad. It just was not fantastic.

Myself and two of the boys opted for the honey bbq boneless wings

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps9dunhdyv.jpg

And I had chicken quesadillas .. These were nice

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psek2fk3a5.jpg

Andy had the meatloaf with crispy onions . It was " ok"

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psluxzebbt.jpg

Nick had the triple hog. It had a sauce on it he didn't like.

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psdtz0cosm.jpg

Cocktails were buy one get one free. Rude not too.

I had strawberry daiquiris. More strawberry than Daiquiri but refreshing

But I got shocking brain freeze and it kind of put me off my food.
Schoolboy error

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psjkveocvs.jpg

And the bill $73

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...psnkj2ag1v.jpg

So, it was ok but we all agree this is one place that will probably drop off our list now

Everyone was feeling a bit tired now – all that lazing about in sunshine and water – how does it wear out so much ?

The teens all went straight to bed and I think Jamie was asleep within minutes.

We watched some tv for a while and tried to sort out the plan for the next few days – only a week left now , sob .

The next day is HERE

I think Applebees is okay as long as you go in with realistic expectations, I see it as cheap and cheerful but when you see the bill it's not really much cheaper than other much better places!

Yes, it really wasn't that much cheaper than Millers and BWW.
I think works better for us at lunch than dinner .

Enjoyed reading your TR. We came across a fair few loud people on our trip too. They seem to assume that everyone wants to hear what they've got to say & towels on sunbeds to reserve them, then not using them for hours - really annoys me too!
Anyway - sounds like a nice day at DC, apart from the little incident & scrapes.
Nice food pics too 😎

We love DC. It definitely is a little bit of paradise. We have been twice both times on a Sunday and I know its limited numbers but its quite busy. We're usually the last to leave and love it when its practically empty. Think next time we'll go mid week. Although think I'll give the pina colada a miss. I never realised that mini golf was such a serious event I aways thought it was just a bit of fun ;)

CuriousAlice 28 Aug 16 06:47 AM

What a lovely day. The food does seems much better than when we went too.

I had a giggle at you fumbling around the park without your specs! That could have led to some truly embarrassing moments. To be fair, it is hard to identify anyone when all visitors are wearing the same vests and wetsuits.

Those knees though. The lazy river bed is vicious. It tore my knees to shreds on our visit and they took so long to heal - I had little red marks for months afterwards to constantly remind me of our holiday and that I was back in the rainy UK. Brutal. Hope you and Jamie are fully recovered x

We always enjoy Discovery Cove too. I'm not sure if you snorkel but they do prescription goggles different ones depending on how short or long sighted you are. Hubby made great use of them.
Another one here who wasn't as enamored with Applebees this time, not sure why.
And why does spending all day doing very little tire you out so much? I was shattered after our day there! :D

Thank you :wavey: yes that family had no volume control at all. And all talked at once. They must have permanent headaches from the chatter. It was mean reserving those loungers and not using them, they were in a top spot under a parasol. It was clear by lunchtime no one was coming back so I moved the towels off. Love DC, it's just so relaxing.

It is such a lovely place. It's so nice that it's ok to do nothing all day there if you want to ! Mini golf is a very serious competitive sport ... The loser usually has to take the heaviest case on the trip home ;)p

I miss not wearing contact lenses now, they hurt my eyes too much and with all that send ... So it's quite funny. Jamie was like " how can you not see him , he's over there waving" and I'm like, " nope, not seeing it" !

I don't understand why the surface is so rough, poor Jamie, it took ages to scab over and you can still see it now.

An, I didn't know they, I haven't tried the snorkelling there. Lazing around in the heat and water is just so exhausting ... It's lovely just snoozing on the loungers.

We always liked Applebee's but the last twice it's only been just ok . I think maybe our tastes have changed since finding places like BWW and NBC . Thanks for reading x

Discovery Cove is so lovely! I think i'd quite like to go back next time. Non swim though.

Nooo don't you hate it when places change their menus? So rude! Don't they know how much we look forward to certain items?! Haha!

xx
