Tokyo - good hotels on a budget?

Thinking of doing 4 nights at Sheraton Grande for Disney, then 4 nights somewhere central for Tokyo.

Any recommendations?

Looking for budget friendly options but still nice. No love hotels please!

Not really sure which area to base ourselves in, which is not helping!

Can’t really help you on a budget friendly hotel but I strongly recommend wherever you decide stay close to a railway station.

We booked this hotel, JR Mets in Shibuya, which is actually part of the station (just, it is at the New South Exit end) and while it was small it was clean and fine for us – we booked ages before travel via booking.com (free cancellation) and the price only kept going up.

Would stay there again.

Happy to post a few pics of the room if it helps, or mail them if required.

Not sure how budget you want to go, but we have stayed at a couple of APA hotels. They're all pretty much the same, kind of like Japanese Premier Inn, basic but very reliable. The rooms tend to be tiny but that was fine for us. As long as you're near a subway station then you should be okay as nowhere in Tokyo is really "central". The ones we have stayed at have always been around £50 per night :)

We have airbnb'd we have done this for tokyo and kyoto. We only chose super hosts and have had good communication with the hosts.

Tokyo host is 5 min walk from ueno behind a school. Second is 5 mins from kyoto station next to launderette.

Worked out cheaper than hotel and both have washing machines for lighter packing.

Our son used Airbnb for their stay in Tokyo in January. They had a very nice apartment close to Ueno and with excellent transport links close by. They chose a superhost too, and had no problems. The apartment was spotless clean and well equipped, they did say the bed was very hard but I think that’s how beds are in Japan.

Yeah and small. Our tokyo apartment is very small. The kyoto one in comparison has 2 bedrooms upstairs and a living room plus kitchen diner downstairs. Tokyo will be cramped but fun...

Our airbnb kyoto was simply excellent. A 5 star in all categories. Our tokyo airbnb was a brothel and probably offered by the hour rates. Refund was not an issue.

However, there were plenty of 'last minute book for tonight' offers we could take without panic.

If you wanted to stay at the hilton then this wouldnt be a problem. Maihama station is 15 mins from Tokyo main station and is also a jr station (if you had a jr pass for example) so an easy run. We got a multiday monorail pass for disney, that cut price and walking hours to the park and back.
