Switzerland Summer 2020 - Day 5 - Lugano
August 6th - O's 19th Birthday! He didn't really want for much except a map he could stock pins in - so that is what he got! Very easy to please :D Poor lad was up at 5am for his course too! He has also got sunburnt the day before and his face was not in great shape. After a breakfast of pancakes, we set off to Lugano - about 100km south of here. We stopped first at the local supermarket to get some aftersun cream for him. The route goes through a 17km tunnel - often there are queues to get into it as they only allow so many through at any one time but third morning it was a clear run. We made it down there in a bit over an hour. It really was a beautiful place - but quite high end. We managed to park (in the shade!) - we couldn't use the underground car parks as the car still had the roof box on it. Thankfully we found one that wasn't too far away. We walked around the lake a bit before heading into the town center as we were all hungry. Three of us had pizza and F had smoked salmon pasta. With a small beer and a liter of water it was 91CHF - so not cheap but it was delicious and the Birthday boy was happy. We wandered around the town. We had thought that we would go swimming but with O's sunburn we tried to keep out of the sun. The town is really pretty - and J was in seventh heaven as there were lots of watch shops. Thankfully he didn't buy any! As ice cream had been lacking this holiday, the aim was to find one. I had done my research so with lunch no longer filling us up so much we headed off to the one I thought looked the nicest. Thankfully it was open! Mine - cheesecake, chocolate and tiramisu! And O's ice cream sundae - he declared it delicious! We headed back to the car- through the very pretty park. June went rock diving. It was very funny and she was as happy as anything to be in the water. The drive home took a while as this time there were queues to get into the tunnel! Once home we took June for a walk up the valley! Lots of flowers as usual! The water was still freezing though! Back home F made veggie burgers with fried veggies for everyone and then the usual games of Boggle (I am still in the lead!) and the card games (I lose most of these!) took place By 10pm we were all in bed after all the fresh air! |
Just love the lakes and mountains 🏞️ Are you still in Switzerland or Italy?

What a fantastic day, Lugano looks beautiful and those ice creams are amazing. The meal out looks delicious but, ouch, at the prices again. Still, O deserves a birthday treat. I hope he enjoyed his birthday and his sun burn is a little better now
Love the photo of June, she seems to be having a great time 😀 |
