Met police officer shot ...

Very sad. How on earth could a suspect enter the custody building with a weapon on him ? RIP to the officer & condolences to family, friends and colleagues. 😢

Linda. A dreadful incident. My understanding from Sky News is he was in the Custody Suite, produced a gun and shot the Officer before shooting himself.

I suppose he had the weapon secreted in his clothing and a routine quick search following arrest didn't discover it and the Custody Suite procedures would have.

A sad day for all the Police Family and the worst possible news for the bereaved family.

An awful incident. This interview quote on BBC news goes some way to explaining the dilemma facing serving Police Officers.

Asked about how someone could enter the building while armed, former Det Ch Insp Chris Phillips said: "I think police officers are probably less likely to search people now with all the furore that goes on.
"When people get arrested there is a general view that they should be searched before being transported to the police station but that doesn't always happen - and it depends on what the man was arrested for in the first place.
"This goes down the line about handcuffing - do you handcuff, when do the handcuffs get taken off for protection etc."

The Police are currently on a hiding to nothing from the more Liberal minded. I await details of the suspect and what he was initially arrested for with interest.
