API and booking seats

Hey,

Flying September 2018. Got reference number for flight today. Can I enter API now? if so where because I can't see. Also going Sept 4th will I need to book seats to ensure the 3 of us will be together?

Thanks

What airline? If Virgin, you can't do API until online checkin opens 24 hours before.

Yes Virgin... Would you book seats?

I fly PE/Upper so seat reservation is free, but I would always pay to book if not. Not because I'm worried about sitting apart (DH is grumpy on flights anyway, further away the better some trips :d: ) but because I like to choose where in the plane to sit.

If the third person is a child, they usually do try to seat families together wherever possible. But bear in mind that an airline's definition of "together" is any adjacent seat in any direction, so sitting in the row behind is still considered together.

If you want to be guaranteed seats together then you must book. Many dont, and will still get seats together, but its not certain.
