Sea Venture at DC with bad ears

We're considering doing this but our daughter always has problems with her ears when on hols when swimming. It's a vicious circle with water getting in her ears, goes infected, antibiotics, clears up, back in water, goes infected etc etc.

She has had 2 ops for holes in the eardrums and we have tried many different things to try help with her ears ie plugs but to no avail. Just giving some background to the question.

She is fine and no real problems at the moment but are the helmets pressured and has anyone experience of using them with the above ear issues as don't want to risk flaring anything up with her?

I'm not after solutions for her ears as we have literally tried everything and she is now happy just chilling and not doing full on swimming getting above the neck wet basically.

Thanks for any info.

Yes you do have to clear your ears as the pressure increases with depth. You cannot do this the traditional way scuba divers do it by pinching their nose so you have to move your jaw around and swallow to equalise the pressure.

I don't think I would recommend it for someone with problems with their eardrums.

Thank you, think we will give it a miss.

Both my eardrums are perforated and I did Sea Venture without any problems. In the same way that my ears never pop on a plane, I didn’t have any pressure issues when going under the water. Like your daughter, I don’t swim ever so it was amazing to do this!
