Well after I posted this I started pricing Universal hotels for the beginning and end of the stay.
I found a (relative) bargain - HRH for 2 nights with club level rooms for only £5 per night more...

100% agreed. The fact Reservations weren't notified of the works before the email was sent out by Disney Destinations was the starting point for this madness and should have warned us about the mess...

Just booked at £399 for 2 nights (2 adults), which I'm happy with for now. Was about £90 more when I've looked previously. Will watch prices and if I get see a better deal I'll cancel and rebook.
