enhancedroadsideassistance.com costs $2.50 per day. So is cheaper up to about 35 days (at a 1.7 exchange rate). After that the yearly policies are cheaper.

I am not aware of anyone having a hold that has prepaid.
I have rented maybe 30 times from Alamo (always pre-paying) - including twice in the past 4 weeks. Never had a hold on any funds on my cards.

It would be useful to split into two - actual car hire companies and third party brokers.
I rarely use the latter and generally stick to the actual companies themselves.
