Personally, I'd recommend Salzburg or Munich. Both full of history and plenty of good food and drink. Only downside is that outside of the Christmas season, both of them are very quiet on Sundays.

Nimbus, if you want an enjoyable city in Canada, I'd recommend Vancouver over Toronto. The views are spectacular, transport around the city and beyond is easy and we found it more relaxing.
