The side dish instead of the dessert is really the exception to the rule. The vast majority of places don't allow this so I wouldn't bank on that :(

The desserts can get a bit much at times...

And at Earl of Sandwich too - you can get something like a pot of potato salad instead of a dessert which would make a nice change. :thumbs-up
