Mine took 6 weeks from cancellation to money hitting my account. During that time, I had to do a lot of chasing up via phone calls, LiveChat and Twitter. Rest assured it will be refunded eventually.

Tax would probably be within the same range depending on your level of earnings but you would have to pay class 1 NI which is slightly higher than Class 4 & 2 paid by the self employed.
