I work in a primary school, and we have SULP groups too. These have been around for quite a while - our school have been running them for as long as I've been there, which is 10 years now. No doubt the focus has changed slightly over all that time, but turn-taking and maintaining eye contact are a big part of it.
I'm glad you're noticing a difference and feel that it's been successful.
