The previous day is
HERE
Saturday 9 July
We were somewhat rudely awakened just after 3 by our neighbour
Yes she of the un necessarily loud shrieksome voice had surpassed herself by inviting friends back
Drunk people, you are so not quiet when you laugh
It was just beyond a joke
They were really really loud
30 minutes later and no sign of any common sense invading their chardonnay brains, Andy rang down to the lobby to complain. It was just not funny.
We heard the security guy appear on the floor about 10 minutes later
And then it was all quiet
As it should be
But now it was 4 am and took us a while to get back to sleep
We woke again at 7.30 which still felt too early after the disturbance last night but we got up and finished the packing
Given that all we had bought were two magnets, it still mystifies me why the re packing was so difficult
Its like the clothes had multiplied by themselves.
Andy went to collect the boys who were in various states of readiness which explains why earpods and suncream were left behind
I had meantime asked about the hotel airport shuttle - apparently they charge by passenger and by large case so they were asking for $150 – I think not.
We didn’t want to faff about with taxis so a quick hop onto the internet and we booked the non stop Flyer van for $100 .
Could have got it $25 cheaper if we had gone for the multi pick up option but with 5 of us already on board, we preferred to book on our own.
That and we are just downright unsociable !
I was a bit nervous about it being such a last minute booking but we will have to wait and see what turns up at 2.50 this afternoon
We were able to leave all our bags for a $2 fee and Andy checked us out , mentioning the fact that we had been woken up by our neighbour two nights in a row.
Not that it was the hotel’s fault at all – but they refunded us one night for the inconvenience and hoped it wouldn’t put us off staying with them again
Way to go Hilton – much respect for your customer service.
As today will involve more walking we opt for a taxi to our first port of call
I know , feeble lightweights
10 minutes later ( around 1030) we are arriving here
The Lincoln Memorial
We were not alone
Fab view along the “ Forrest Gump pool” as the boys called it
With Capitol Hill in the distance
Big Abe
The Gettysburg Address
We set off along the reflecting pool, realising it was actually much cooler if you walked on the path under the trees
Ssh, don’t tell anyone we walked over the grass
Much better under here
WE had a lovely walk up to the WW2 memorial
Each of these panels depicted different aspects of the war, they were beautifully detailed
Just a couple here
