Things are going cashless but not as much as here. As recommended a lot, I use a halifax clarity credit card (no fees), and also have a starling bank account (also no fees). I use starting as a backup and also use it to withdraw cash if I need/want to. Have done this for years.

If you find it easier to budget using cash you may find using starling a better option, transfer the money from your bank account to starling, then you know how much you are spending, they have an app that notifies you every time you spend, and you can easily keep track of what you have spent. A little harder to do with the halifax as it's a credit card, but still doable.
