Did you speak to the Managing Partner? I would be explaining that this is unacceptable - you are paying for a service and it isn't your problem how they manage the workload.
I would say - in all our house purchases we have found that solicitors who do convenyancing tend not to prioritise that work (as they also have other casework), whereas a dedicated conveyancer tends to be much better as it is their focus. We figured this out on our last sale/purchase.
