Team Bricki’s Second Wedding Anniversary- From Orlando to erm……. Leeds

A bit of a random report but we took lots of food pics so it might be of interest to some of you

So last week we were supposed to be on our second wedding anniversary holiday in America with lockdown ending slightly, we wanted to do something to celebrate. Our favourite hobby is eating and drinking cocktails so why not stick to what we know and love. We chose Leeds as it isn’t too far from us and is a small but nice city with a great food and drink scene. While Boris was still announcing the road map I got straight onto the Radisson Blu website and booked our hotel- a move that paid off as I paid £75 per night and it is now £150 per night for most weekends in 2021!
We booked lunch and dinner with cocktail bars in between. The weather wasn’t amazing which was a shame as we would have liked to just have a wander around in our free time. However we still had a fabulous mini break- we ate some fantastic food, had some great cocktails at the indie bars and experienced some lovely service from people who were so grateful to be back at work. Now we need to go on a serious diet on the off chance the borders open and we can actually get on our anniversary trip in September!

Wednesday 19th May
We finished work and rushed home to get showered and changed, ready to get the train over to Leeds. We checked into the Radisson to find out that we had received an upgrade to a Superior Room, which was a lovely surprise. I completely forgot to take pictures of the room but it was gorgeous- really big and spacious with fluffy bathrobes and slippers, and a big TV that we could play all our subscription services to! We get up between 3.30-4am for work so it was past our teatime by the time we arrived in Leeds and dinner wasn’t booked until 8.30pm so Brett decided we needed a pre-tea tea!
It was actually a nice evening so we headed down to Call Lane and sat outside the amazing Neon Cactus. This is an independent Mexican street food spot that do delicious tacos, burritos, nachos and Margaritas!

We were greeted with a welcome back shot of Tequila with a chaser.

We shared the Chicken Burrito, which was absolutely loaded with filling and came with a delicious broth for dipping.

We also had Queso Fundido (Cajun Nachos with Jalapeno and Queso Dip). These were salty and spicy, the dip was hot and made from proper melted cheese rather than liquid cheese, delicious!

For cocktails we had San Pedro (Cachaca, Cardamom, Lemon, Cloudy Apple, Angostura Bitters)

and Underdog (Pineapple infused Tequila, Sweet Vermouth, Pimento Dram).

We usually have the Margaritas here so went a little different this time- both were very nice!
