Stu. The news article repeated what the official statement from the TSA said. I repeated it in my post. Here's an image of the tweet from AskTSA (an official TSA twitter account) stating that "this item is still considered a replica and is not allowed in carry-on or checked bags".
I'm not sure what other proof you want? Do you want the TSA to personally hand you a hand-written statement?
