I used to roller skate at the winter gardens, spending most most of my teen years there. It had a wooden floor and was brilliant. Friday night was disco night.
Back in the day I would use the ferry, skate to rink and ferry home again, I think it was 50p to cross the river.
It was also turned into a play area which was good, but the structure isn’t safe now so it stands empty which is a real shame.
I served Jim Davidson when I worked as a waitress at The Carlton Hotel many years ago and he still tours here every year.
